ASIFA Portland proudly announces Shorts3, an afternoon of animation with Portland legends Joan Gratz, Marilyn Zornado, and Jim Blashfield, hosted by Dennis Nyback.
On July 24, at 1pm, at Cinema 21, we’ll be viewing new and recent works from these ground-breaking and award-winning artists, with audience Q/A and discussion. This event is free to members of ASIFA, $5 general admission.
Joan Gratz has received Academy Awards for her kinetic claypainting, and her latest animation delivers even more of the same delight. Look forward to a screening of her latest film, Kubla Khan. Artist and educator Marilyn Zornado has brought life to text and the printed image through her work. She’ll present her latest collaborative effort, Old Time Film, and discuss her experiences in the evolving Portland animation world. Audiences have long applauded Jim Blashfield for his music videos for Talking Heads, Joni Mitchell, Peter Gabriel and many others, earning him an Emmy and awards from Cannes and MTV. The same wit and high style will be presented in Jim’s personal work, Vanity. The show will be hosted by local film historian and archivist Dennis Nyback of the Oregon Cartoon Institute.
ASIFA Portland is the Portland, Oregon chapter of the international animation society, the Association International du Film d’Animation. ASIFA exists to boost the art of animation and the community that practices it, promoting a free exchange of ideas both locally and internationally.
