Greg Knowles from ATI in Bend, OR

Yesterday’s Season 2 kickoff event at the stages of “Grimm” was a great time for all to celebrate the fact that several hundred Oregonians are hard at work making the first of 22 episodes for the new season.  It was also a great opportunity to feature several local vendors who have benefited in many different ways because of “Grimm” and other projects like “Leverage” and “Portlandia”.  While visiting the sets of both “Grimm” and “Leverage”, Governor Kitzhaber has remarked several times about the film and television industry’s great use of the local supply chains.

At this past year’s Cinema Pacific former U of O alum Daniel Wu visited his alma mater and screened two of his films.  This is a video of his Q&A at the screening of his film “Overheard 2”.  Who is Daniel Wu you ask?  Well he’s one of Hong Kong’s biggest actors and in China, everyone knows his name.  I had the chance to meet Daniel at a dinner the night of the screening and enjoyed finding out what the one thing he sought out while he was in Oregon – the DVD of “Portlandia Season 1”!

In a matter of a few short days Andy Baio(of waxy.org) has his XOXO Festival Funded.  Unfortunately that means that if you did not already contribute you won’t be able to get a ticket to the event which is scheduled for September 13-16.  Have no fear though, there will still be opportunities to experience the event as the “Market” portion of the festival will be open to the public September 15-16.  What is so exciting about the festival is that it is yet another example of multiple worlds of creativity and tech coming together for a conversation about what is happening and what is next.

The program will feature talks and short films by three titans in the Portland film community: JIM BLASHFIELD (maker of videos for Michael Jackson and the Talking Heads — no joke!), BROOKE JACOBSON (Co-Founder of the NW Film Center, Portland State University professor) and MATT McCORMICK (you’d be hard-pressed to find another filmmaker whose films are so distinctly Northwest, or who has done as much to nurture the work of local makers).
