Portland Feature Film “Birds of Neptune” Wins Big at the Arizona International Film Festival!

Portland production Birds of Neptune takes home Best Dramatic Feature at the Arizona International Film Festival, and the Special Jury Award for Best Performance to Britt Harris!   Birds of Neptune written and directed by Steven Richter, produced by Lara Cuddy, stars Britt Harris, Molly Elizabeth Parker and Kurt Conroyd.

Birds of Neptune will screen next at the Mammoth Lakes Film Festival on May 29th.  Director Steven Richter and actors Britt Harris and Molly Elizabeth Parker will be in attendance for a Q&A after the screening.

Oregon Road Sessions: The Weather Machine – Debuts Music In Five State Parks

Above Slater Smith and The Weather Machine play “Wild West Coast” at Peter Skene Ogden State Park .  Four more bands will be featured at four other state park locations.  (To learn more about this project, listen to OPB’s State of Wonder this Saturday at noon.)  You can read more about Slater Smith, and Oregon State parks’ quest to bring music to the outdoors at OPBMUSIC.

Last year Slater traveled to every Oregon state park and featured a shot in each for the band’s creative music video, “Back O’er Oregon“.

Vu Pham’s New Permutations at Cinema 21

LOVE IS STRONG, a triad of short films by writer/director Vu Pham, will screen at Cinema 21
on May 2nd at 3:00PM. The films will be introduced by Lawrence Johnson, an award-winning
director of the films Stuff and Hand Game. Following the screening will be a Q&A with Pham
and the films’ cast and crew.

Pham’s previous works includes My Brother (2014), a film exploring the ambivalent relationship
between a Vietnamese-American man and his estranged brother. It was featured at the San Diego
Asian Film Festival, Portland Film Festival, and Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival.

“Green Room” Announced for Directors’ Fortnight 2015

Screen Shot 2015-04-21 at 7.18.31 AMThis year’s Cannes Director’s Fortnight lineup will feature a number of American independent titles, including the world premiere of Oregon-shot-and-produced “Green Room,”  the latest thriller from Fortnight alum, Jeremy Saulnier (“Blue Ruin”), produced by Neil Kopp, Anish Savjani and Victor Moyers. NW Documentary’s Les Voyageurs To Screen At Telluride Mountain Film

[vimeo]https://vimeo.com/54933564[/vimeo]NW Documentary’s feature film Les Voyageurs Sans Trace, is to screen at Telluride Mountain Film. Telluride Mountain Film is “an annual festival, a worldwide tour, a diverse community and a champion for change.”  Les Voyageurs Sans Trace’s story follows three French kayakers who descended the Colorado River in 1938 to explore the American West and filmed their feat in color film. The 16mm color film predates Hollywood’s first color movie, The Wizard of Oz, and is the first color adventure film.

Oregon Story Board Open For Applications For Accelerator Class Of 2015

OSB_rgbOregon Story Board have opened up applications for the second class of the Oregon Story Board accelerator program. Check out the FAQ for more information, and apply by May 8th, 2015.

The accelerator provides physical space, business mentorship, collaboration opportunities, infrastructure support, networks, and seed capital to early-stage companies in the film, video, animation, visual effects, digital media and gaming sectors during a four-month class.

OSB is spurring job growth and economic viability for companies at the intersection of these industries, with the premise that collaboration and shared resources will lead to more business opportunity in our creative, technology-infused economy.

Will Vinton to Keynote McMinnville Short Film Festival

Oscar- and Emmy-winning filmmaker Will Vinton will be the keynote presentation at the 5th Annual McMinnville Short Film Festival on October 3, 2015.  As a Director and Producer of 3D animation, Will Vinton has won virtually every film and television award given a filmmaker – several hundred in total. Will directed and produced the world’s first all Claymation feature film, the critically acclaimed ADVENTURES OF MARK TWAIN. Soon after, he directed the first three California Raisin commercials that launched a legendary series of hip commercials, entertainment, merchandising, and a CBS Saturday morning TV series, THE CALIFORNIA RAINSIN SHOW.

CW’s TV Comedy, “Significant Mother” to Shoot Series in Portland

Josh ZuckermanAlloy Entertainment, and CW‘s “Significant Mother“, is set to shoot in the Portland area late spring and will air in August.  The series shot three digital episodes for The CW Seed last year, and now has upped the series to TV.  The show will star Josh Zuckerman (“Desperate Housewives”, “90210”), Krista Allen (“What About Brian”), Jonathan Silverman (“Weekend at Bernie’s”), Emma Fitzpatrick (“The Social Network”) and Jay Ali (“The Fosters”).
