Over 7000 High Schools Students Attended NW Youth Careers Expo 2016

Oregon Film hosted a booth again this year at the NW Youth Careers Expo, and we were joined by representatives from:

Selected high school students, and Governor Kate Brown, addressed the pre-expo breakfast attendees, reinforcing the message that supporting Oregon’s youth as they emerge into the workforce is integral to our state’s growth.

The expo was put on by the Portland Workforce Alliance, and had over 160 exhibitors.

Mushrooms Are Now A Solution For Eco-Minded Set Designers

Ecovative, a US company, is leading the way in manufacturing environmentally-friendly products that could change the way set designers and prop makers use materials.  Their product, Myco Foam, made from mycelium, corn stalks/ husks and other agricultural waste, is manufactured through a special “growing” process and can replace any kind of Styrofoam that is used on set.  Pretty great, right?  Read more from our Green Film Shooting friends in Europe, and how you can try it.

Grimmster Foundation Raises $386,000 For Doernbecher Children’s Hospital

Another successful Grimmster Foundation Gala, put on by NBC Comcast over the week end, raised $386,000 for Doernbecher Children’s Hospital from ticket sales and silent auction items.

Pipeworks Triples Studio Space In Eugene

Screen Shot 2016-02-10 at 3.51.15 PM The Register-Guard reports that, indie game designer, Pipeworks, is expanding, and has tripled its studio space by buying out the $2.5 million building it has been leasing.  Pipeworks has added 15,000 square feet to it’s operation, and has almost doubled it’s workforce to around 75 employees since 2014. Portland, Oregon – February 4, 2016 – The Portland Oregon Women’s Film Festival (a.k.a. POWFest) is pleased to announce this year’s guest of honor, award-winning director and gender equality advocate, Catherine Hardwicke, who will be in attendance throughout the festival taking place March 3 – 6, at The Hollywood Theatre.  

Hardwicke’s direction of the film adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s best-selling novel, Twilight, launched the worldwide blockbuster franchise, The Twilight Saga and earned nearly $400 million at the worldwide box office and made her made one of the most commercially successful women film directors.

Local High School’s Anti-Bullying Video, Wins Paste Cloud Contest


Jon Garcia, Sunset High school’s language arts teacher, created a video designed to combat cyber-bullying, and has got the attention of the $10,000 Paste Cloud Video Contest.  Paste Cloud were, “giving away $10,000 to celebrate the launch of our new video platform for musicians, short filmmakers, comedians and more.”  Read more here.
