Oregon Film hosted a booth again this year at the NW Youth Careers Expo, and we were joined by representatives from:
Selected high school students, and Governor Kate Brown, addressed the pre-expo breakfast attendees, reinforcing the message that supporting Oregon’s youth as they emerge into the workforce is integral to our state’s growth.
The expo was put on by the Portland Workforce Alliance, and had over 160 exhibitors.
The successful and innovative online Intentional Filmmaking Class, designed by Carole Dean to teach filmmakers how to get their films funded, is now accepting members for their 2016 Spring Semester.
Class begins February 29th.There is a $100 discount for enrollment by February 21st and a $25 additional discount by entering the code FUND25 when they purchase the class.

Ecovative, a US company, is leading the way in manufacturing environmentally-friendly products that could change the way set designers and prop makers use materials. Their product, Myco Foam, made from mycelium, corn stalks/ husks and other agricultural waste, is manufactured through a special “growing” process and can replace any kind of Styrofoam that is used on set. Another successful Grimmster Foundation Gala, put on by NBC Comcast over the week end, raised $386,000 for Doernbecher Children’s Hospital from ticket sales and silent auction items.
The 39th Portland International Film Festival begins tonight. They will be showcasing 97 features and 62 shorts from around the globe. Get tickets here.
The Register-Guard reports that, indie game designer, Pipeworks, is expanding, and has tripled its studio space by buying out the $2.5 million building it has been leasing. Pipeworks has added 15,000 square feet to it’s operation, and has almost doubled it’s workforce to around 75 employees since 2014. Read more here.

PORTLAND OREGON WOMEN’S FILM FESTIVAL (POWFEST) ANNOUNCES 2016 WOMAN OF HONOR – TWILIGHT DIRECTOR CATHERINE HARDWICKE
Portland, Oregon – February 4, 2016 – The Portland Oregon Women’s Film Festival (a.k.a. POWFest) is pleased to announce this year’s guest of honor, award-winning director and gender equality advocate, Catherine Hardwicke, who will be in attendance throughout the festival taking place March 3 – 6, at The Hollywood Theatre.
Hardwicke’s direction of the film adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s best-selling novel, Twilight, launched the worldwide blockbuster franchise, The Twilight Saga and earned nearly $400 million at the worldwide box office and made her made one of the most commercially successful women film directors.
Jon Garcia, Sunset High school’s language arts teacher, created a video designed to combat cyber-bullying, and has got the attention of the $10,000 Paste Cloud Video Contest. Paste Cloud were, “giving away $10,000 to celebrate the launch of our new video platform for musicians, short filmmakers, comedians and more.” Read more here.
