What a Sundance Festival for Oregon Films!  Today it was announced that Ashland based Susan Saladoff sold her documentary “Hot Coffee” to HBO. This is Susan’s first film and the success of the film is sure to make everyone believe that documentary film making is still viable.  Credit does go to Susan’s ability to tell a compelling story but she also created a great on line presence for the film. Attending our Annual Meeting was Governor Kulongoski, members of the Governor’s Office of Film & Television Board, as well nominees for the annual awards and a large audience of industry professionals at the newly rennovated Lincoln Performance Hall at PSU on Friday evening.   PSU‘s technical team made it possible to catch up on industry happenings in Ashland, Bend and Eugene via  live broadcast by teleconference bridge.

Oregon Film Annual Meeting – December 17th

Oregon Film Annual MeetingMark your calendars… the Oregon Film Annual Meeting will be held Friday,  December 17th at 7:00PM.   This year’s meeting will once again be a state-wide teleconference event thanks to the support of our friends in Bend, Eugene, and Ashland.  The Portland location for the meeting will be Portland State University’s Lincoln Hall.

The iOPIF Program Does Its Job – Funds Fully Committed

In the last few weeks there have been a number of projects that have applied for the Indigenous Oregon Production Investment Program (iOPIF), and now all the available funds have been fully committed.  In total 13 projects have been qualified for the program and projects have been produced or are set to be produced in the Portland area, Central Oregon and Ashland.  The first project was the Brothers Freeman film “Wake Before I Die” back in January of this year.  Continue reading... “The iOPIF Program Does Its Job – Funds Fully Committed”

SOFaT Filmmaker Series presents "Star Trek IV: The Journey Home"

Southern Oregon Film and Television is proud to present its upcoming SOFaT Filmmaker Series special screening of “Star Trek IV: The Journey Home”, projected in 35mm at the Varsity Theatre in downtown Ashland. Immediately following the film, there will be a live discussion and Q&A with the film’s writer and producer Harve Bennett, veteran of 4 Star Trek films from The Wrath of Khan to The Final Frontier as well as other films and notable TV shows.

Time: 6:30pm

Oregon's Diverse Talent Base – its Greatest Strength

Whether it’s the thriving independent music scene, live theater, or a combination of multiple creative disciplines, there is no doubt Oregon is a thriving base of creative expression.   According to the Oregon Arts Commission over 60,000 jobs in Oregon are directly related to the creative economy.  That may not sound like a lot of jobs but when you figure that Oregon has about 1/10 of the population of California, it’s a large section of the total workforce in Oregon.  So when a film or television project comes to Oregon, there is a rich and diverse depth of talent to pull from. It’s Not Easy Being Green…

Playing in the Ashland Independent Film Festival this year (April 8-12) is “Greenlit,” the documentary chronicling the attempt to make the feature film, “The River Why “green” from pre through post-production.  The film portrays the enthusiasm, challenges and successes when trying to green a film.  “The River Why” was shot entirely on location in Oregon.

Following the screening of “Greenlit,” a panel will discuss what it means to live and work green in the entertainment industry.

"Calvin Marshall" – Behind the Scenes

“Calvin Marshall,” filmed in Ashland, Oregon in late 2007 has now hit the festival circuit.
