Colour Box Makeup Studios founder Kerry Herta returns to Portland Aug. 31-Sept. 5 to teach aspiring makeup artists the latest techniques used in the entertainment and beauty industries.
Herta, a 2011 Daytime Emmy nominee, previously taught her signature workshops – the five-day Makeup Artist Boot Camp and one-day Airbrush Seminar – in Portland in June. The new dates will accommodate the growing waiting list of artists who couldn’t enroll in the last class.
The exclusive workshops are again limited to 12 aspiring artists, all of whom will be trained by Herta and complete assignments using live models and industry-leading products and equipment. Continue reading... “HD/Film Makeup Workshops Returning to Portland”

Today NBC announced that its new series “Grimm” which is set to shoot in Oregon will premiere the pilot episode at the 2011 Comic-Con on July 23. The episode will screen with a Q&A session with Exec. Prods Jim Kauf and David Greenwalt as well as the series’ main cast. Given the subject matter of the show, it’s no surprise to hear that it made it into Comic-Con and it’s great to see that NBC is already beginning a promo push for the show. Over the course of Oregon’s 103 year cinematic history, 300+ productions have made use of our diverse locations and home-grown talent pool. However, this summer will be the first time that we’ll be playing host to three television series shooting simultaneously – Leverage, Portlandia and Grimm – and all based in the Portland Metro area. It’s an incredibly exciting thing both for the city and Oregon’s film and television industry on the whole, but what does that mean for those of us not on set besides seeing an abundance of large trailers filling the streets near our office buildings? The cast and crew of “Leverage” put together a video recently which puts a face to the types of jobs that have come here thanks to the Oregon Film Incentives. The video was also intended to be a word of thanks to Governor John Kitzhaber and the Oregon Legislature. Check it out. And be sure to check out the premiere episode of season 4 of “Leverage” this Sunday on TNT. The premiere episode shot on top of Mt. Hood this year, which was a first for the show. As the Season 4 premiere of “Leverage” approaches, more and more photos and video footage is coming online to promote the premiere. This year the premiere episode takes place up on top of a mountain. The real mountain was Oregon’s Mt. Hood and in February, Mt. Hood gets A LOT of snow. During the shoot, the cast and crew endured an even bigger than normal snowfall but after enduring the elements, it’s apparent that they got a great premiere episode.
This week Entertainment Weekly’s website is featuring some behind the scenes footage from the show featuring Mt. Continue reading... “New Behind the Scenes Footage of “Leverage” Premiere”
We’re lucky enough to have a local media community that by in large likes to write about the local projects. One journalist that stands out as a huge supporter of the local community is Kristi Turnquist. Yesterday the Oregonian published this interview with “Leverage” star Timothy Hutton. It was a nice interview and Timothy opened up about filming in Portland, this year’s premiere episode which was shot on Mount Hood, and the direction of Season 4.
For those of you who don’t know, “Leverage” is due to premiere season 4 on June 26. Continue reading... “Oregonian Interviews “Leverage’s” Timothy Hutton”
Most of the attention of late has focused on feature films and the renewal of the production incentives. The press loves to write about the “Leverages,” the “Grimms,” the “Gones” and the “Portlandias’ because they bring recognizable star talent to Portland. And because they have a mystique about them; they are, for all intents and purposes, “the movies,” “Hollywood.” But we don’t want to loose sight of that portion of the production world that has provided a reasonably steady stream of work for local crew and local vendors; the COMMERCIAL. ….sustainable fairy tales of course!
We are excited to have the opportunity to work with NBC Universal this summer on greening the new series, “Grimm”. NBC Universal’s Television and Environmental Policy affirms they are, “committed to pursuing environmentally sustainable practices across all of our operations” and these are clearly laid out in their environmental policies that cover the production office, construction, on set and wrap. That’s great for the state of Oregon as well as the environment generally! Continue reading... “What Is Both Green And Universal At The Same Time?….”
