July 1st will mark the beginning of a new fiscal year and a new round of funding for our film incentive programs. As a result, we are preparing to open up the application process for our “local filmmaker” program, commonly referred to as the Indigenous Oregon Production Investment Fund (iOPIF).

Tim Williams, Executive Director Oregon Film, talking with high schools students about industry jobs
Oregon Governor, Kate Brown, was a special guest speaker at the PWA (Portland Workforce Alliance) NW Careers Expo 2015 breakfast this year, along with Portland Mayor, Charlie Hayes, Portland Public School Superintendent, Carole Smith and Elemental Technologies CEO, Sam Blackman. Around 130 employers, and over 5,000 high-schoolers from all over the state attended the expo . The students were able to talk directly to employers about career options, ask advice on paths to take toward their dream jobs, try hands-on applications and participate in mock interviews. Hinge teamed up again with PM Publicidad in Atlanta to create this broadcast spot showcasing six very different consumer households in one seamless camera move for Cox Communications. The deceptively simple looking spot was the product of meticulous orchestration between the live action and CG worlds.

VFX Breakdown:
The project workflow began with the previs team: They roughed out the six virtual sets and developed a loopable camera move to program the Milo motion control rig. At the shoot, a RED EPIC was mounted to the Milo arm, and captured each household’s performance on the green screen sweep, as the Milo moved down the tracks. Portland, Or – Animation studio BENT Image Lab conjures up a series of whimsical storybook promos for Cartoon Network’s “Over the Garden Wall”. Directed by BENT’s Solomon Burbridge, the promos bury the viewer deep inside the beautiful CG/stop-motion pages of a forest-woven book, seamlessly transitioning to clips from the show.
“I wanted to take the well worn old trope of ‘from the vaults’ or ‘magic book opening’ and add a new twist to it,” says Burbridge. “The idea of an infinite tunnel book was a great way to further this idea by giving the interior pages dimension and atmosphere. We are excited to announce the June 21st premiere of an Oregon made puppet film from Toby Froud and Heather Henson. Toby Froud is a sculptor, fabricator, puppeteer and filmmaker based in Hillsboro, Oregon. His love of puppets began at a very young age after playing Toby the baby abducted by David Bowie’s Goblin King in the Henson classic Labyrinth.

Community GI Joe Opening Title Sequence
Hinge Digital was tapped by SBI Media to provide animation services for NBC’s much anticipated animated episode of Community. The live-action sitcom, now in it’s 5th season, is no stranger to animation – having produced several experimental episodes including a stop-motion Christmas episode and one in the style of an 8-bit video game.
