On the streets of Portland, Ore., on Monday, Sept. 7, while the rest of the country will be celebrating Labor Day, the Portland Film Festival will be ringing in Zombie Day Apocalypse. And what better way to celebrate than with a record-setting event.

The highly-anticipated 30th anniversary of “The Goonies“, took place over 4 days in Astoria last month. The celebration kicked off with the Geocache “One Eyed Willie Treasure” hunt at the Astoria Armory, with the official “Goonies Day” being marked as June 7th. Several screenings of the movie took place over the four days with the collective events attracted around 15,000 fans from all over the world, celebrating the “Farewell to Warren Field” (location featured in the film’s opening), original cast appearances and the largest collective of the Truffle Shuffle the world has ever seen! The 14th annual Ashland Independent Film Festival took place over the week end in southern Oregon. AIF gives special focus to small independent features and shorts and always includes Oregon projects.
During the 5 days of screenings and events, 97 films were presented, as well as many workshops, Q-and-A’s and “talk-back” sessions. All of the screenings were well attended at this packed festival.
THE PENDLETON REAL WEST FESTIVAL HITS TOWN APRIL 16-18
The Pendleton Real West Festival, a new film event in Eastern Oregon, barrels into town April 16-18 with a lineup of classic Westerns, Native American cinema and cutting edge work by Northwest filmmakers.
The Festival opens Thursday, April 16 with THE WINDING STREAM: THE STORY OF THE CARTERS, THE CASH’S AND THE COURSE OF COUNTRY MUSIC.
