IFC Officially Announces 2nd Season Portlandia Air Date and Guest Stars

Today in the Hollywood Reporter, IFC officially announced the air date for the second season of “Portlandia”.  The show will premiere on January 9 at 10:00PM.  With the announcement came mention of more guest stars set to appear in the second season including Tim Robbins, Kristen Wiig and “30 Rock’s” Jack McBrayer.  Knowing that there were as many as 20 guest stars slated to appear in this second season, we can’t wait to hear who else showed up in Portland to do a bit on the show.  Continue reading... “IFC Officially Announces 2nd Season Portlandia Air Date and Guest Stars”

Lane Comunity College to Host Transit Media Arts Conference

The Lane Community College Media Arts Department and Chambers Family Foundation present the Transit 2011 Media Arts Conference from October 7-8 at the Center for Meeting and Learning, Building 19 Room 102, Lane main campus, 4000 E. 30th Ave., Eugene.

Jalal Jemison joins Bent Image Lab as Head of Compositing/Lead Colorist

Bent Image Lab recently cemented Visual FX Artist Jalal Jemison as its new head of compositing and lead colorist. Jemison whose previous work includes numerous Hollywood projects such as Pineapple Express, Borat and most currently Get Him to the Greek and the documentary How to Die in Oregon brings his mastery of post production tools and techniques to the world of commercials, television programs, music videos and motion graphics.

Gus Van Sant and James Franco to Screen “My Own Private River”

On September 25 Gus Van Sant and James Franco will be at the Hollywood Theater to screen their film “My Own Private River” which is a re-imagined look at Van Sant’s classic film ‘My Own Private Idaho”.  After their collaboration on “Milk”, Gus shared with Franco the original dailies from the film and the two came up with the idea of re-cutting the film.  For more details on the event go to the Hollywood Theater website.

“Portlandia” wins an Emmy for Costumes

Today the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences announced that Amanda Needham and Niki Dimitras from “Portlandia” won an Emmy for best Costumes in a Variety or Music Program.  We picked up the story from Kristi Turnquist’s post today in the Oregonian.  Amanda and Niki won the Emmy for their costume design on the episode titled “Farm” which I believe was the premiere episode of the first season (you know the one with Colin the chicken).  Congratulations to Amanda and Niki and the entire cast and crew of “Portlandia”.  Continue reading... ““Portlandia” wins an Emmy for Costumes”

LAIKA Acquires Rights to Develop Colin Meloy’s and Carson Ellis’ “Wildwood”

Today LAIKA announced it has optioned the film rights to the recently released novel “Wildwood”.  The novel was written by Decemberists front man Colin Meloy with the book illustrations done by Carson Ellis.  This announcement is more proof that Oregon’s creative industry is in full swing on many different levels and now those entities are collaborating.  The novel is the first of a planned three books set in an alternative version of Portland focusing on Forest Park.  LAIKA’s announcement appeared in this Variety article. Local Film “Rid of Me” Secures Distribution with Phase 4

“Rid of Me”, directed, written, and produced by James Westby and Produced by star Katie O’Grady has been acquired by Phase 4 films.  The film has already had great success in several film festivals including the Tribeca Film Festival earlier in the year.  As announced today in Deadline Hollywood the film will get a theatrical release through the deal.  Phase 4 has a wide array of titles in it’s catalog most recently being Kevin Smith’s “Red State”.  No details on the exact release date but the announcement referenced a fall date.
