WORKING LUNCH Short Film by Shilpa Sunthankar to have Portland Premiere

Portland, Oregon – December 3, 2018 – The much anticipated short film, WORKING LUNCH, by Portland-based Director and Producer, Shilpa Sunthankar, is set to have the Portland Premiere on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at The Whitsell Auditorium. Director Shilpa Sunthankar will be in attendance.The film previously had a successful world premiere at the 19th Annual Filmi: Toronto’s South Asian Film Festival and was selected as part of the 2018 Fall Screening Series by New Filmmakers, New York.

“I love location scouting – it’s like a treasure hunt.”

In a smaller market like Southern Oregon, you have to wear multiple production hats to work year-round, and so in addition to still photography I also shoot video, edit, and often work as a 1st AC. But I really love location scouting – it’s like a treasure hunt. Being versatile and tech-savvy comes in handy when using various software and logistical GPS app tools, such as “Where Am I” for longitude, latitude, altitude and address information. The Portland Circuit, a collaboration between the #OregonMade Creative Foundation, the Northwest Film Center, the Hollywood Theatre, the Clinton St. Theater, and Cinema 21, has been created to provide a local theatrical run for #OregonMade feature films. Emmy Award winner, Visual Effects Supervisor Juri Stanossek to attend screening of JIM BUTTON AND LUKE THE ENGINE DRIVER

Emmy Award winner, Visual Effects Supervisor Juri Stanossek will attend the screening of JIM BUTTON AND LUKE THE ENGINE DRIVER on Sunday Oct. 7, 218 @ 3.00 PM at CINEMA 21. Following the screening will be a presentation about VFX by Juri Stanossek followed by a Q&A.

Juri Stanossek started his career in 1994. Since then he’s supervised more than 40 movies for TV and cinema. He acted as Visual Effects Supervisor at Elektrofilm from 2004 to 2008 and then moved forward to Pixomondo Stuttgart, where he supervised international productions like “Ghostwriter” (2010), “Hugo Cabret” (2011) , “Game of Thrones” (2012) and “Rush” (2013).

Oregon Film & Oregon State Parks Plant 50 Trees in Celebration of 50 Years Of Oregon Film Office (Plus The First Historic Oregon Film Trail Sign Is Installed)

The Oregon Film Office and Oregon State Parks planted 50 Sitka Spruce, Western Red Cedar, Douglas-fir, and Western Hemlock seedlings conifer trees at Gleneden Beach State Recreation site to mark the 50th anniversary of the Oregon Film Office and its long standing collaboration with Oregon State Parks.

Additionally, at this site, a sign was erected as part of the recently created the Historic Oregon Film Trail. The sign indicates that the movie, “Sometimes A Great Notion” was filmed very close to the park and in and around the Siletz River area. Portland Film Office Gets Official City Liaison In Comm. Nick Fish

September 2018 – Commissioner Nick Fish will become the Portland City Council’s first official liaison to the Portland Film Office. His Senior Policy Director, Mr. Jamie Dunphy, will be point on this new relationship.

The role, created at Commissioner Fish’s request, recognizes the challenges that film productions face – tight turnaround times, tight budgets, and unique physical challenges operating in a busy urban city – and establishes a direct line of communication with City Hall. This liaison role can be helpful in coordinating broad cooperation across City bureaus, problem solving, assisting with long-term financial sustainability, and establishing a high-level City lead in any issue involving the film industry. Winner Announced For #OregonMade Screenwriter’s Residency Award

Playa in the spring.August 6th, 2018: The OregonMade Creative Foundation, Northwest Film Center and Playa Summer Lake announce the winner for the 2nd annual Playa residency award.

The Screenwriter’s Residency program, now in its second year, received over 30 pitches, proposals and outlines from screenwriters, filmmakers and related creators focusing on a new take on an old genre – The Western. Projects needed to be set in the Northwest but not necessarily all in Oregon, while writers needed to be current Oregon residents. Athena’s Gem Theatre – Getting A New Lease Of Life

The community of Athena come together to form a volunteer work party to restore theri town theatre.

The Gem Theatre is located in Athena—a small, community surrounded by wheat fields in the northeast corner of Oregon. The theatre showed its first “moving pictures” in 1909 and closed in 1968. Four decades of decay followed—an all too common tale of theatres lost forever. But, in the case of the Gem, a handful of determined volunteers intervened beginning in 2004. May 24, 2018 – From world-renowned animation studio HouseSpecial and Director Kirk Kelley comes Armor del Amor – a scripted nature ‘documentary’ that follows the mating rituals of Dasypus novemcinctus, to discover the dark underbelly of modern mammalian dating.

The narrative follows a nine-banded female armadillo as she emerges from her burrow and into the lonely Texas landscape. HouseSpecial researchers captured footage of this modern animal’s efforts to find a potential mate until finally, after several ill-fated opportunities, a match is made.
