STARZ #TakeTheLead Writer’s Intensive Now Open for Submissions

NewFilmmakers LA is proud to announce the second edition of the STARZ #TakeTheLead Writers’ Intensive, in partnership with NFMLA, STARZ and NALIP!

NALIP and NFMLA have partnered with STARZ for a second year of the STARZ #TakeTheLead Writers’ Intensive to support aspiring TV writers from underrepresented backgrounds who desire to make their mark in the world of premium cable. The STARZ #TakeTheLead Writers’ Intensive provides a unique platform for emerging talents to cultivate their skills and refine their spec scripts with the guidance of esteemed mentors, executives, and established writers.

Top Secret Club Wrap Party & Awards

Over the past six weeks five panelists composed of professional writers/filmmakers/actors have read and scored all of the 2023 Top Secret Club scripts.

We are excited to say that the winners of the 1k grants made possible through the Creative Opportunity Program have been selected and we are excited to announce them on Monday November 13th at Desert Island Studios!

The evening will be a celebration of the entire year of Top Secret Club writers and the community that gathered for each event.

Rentals, Repairs, and Rock’n’Roll – Behind-the-Scenes at Koerner Camera Systems

Portland Based Koerner Camera was recently featured in a “mini doc” from Cine D called “Rentals, Repairs, and Rock’n’Roll – Behind-the-Scenes at Koerner Camera Systems.”

Cine D took time to visit Koerner Camera Systems, the largest camera rental house north of Los Angeles with offices in both Portland and Seattle, and talked to owner Michael Koerner about the history of his business.

Michael started out as a camera assistant and got his first ARRI-S. Then he bought an SR-2 and SR-3 and started renting out his cameras, marking the beginning of his business, which has now grown to 13 employees.

Film Tourism On The Agenda At The People’s Coast Summit, Astoria

This year the People’s Coast Summit 2023, took place in Astoria, Oregon. Hosted by the Oregon Coast Visitors Association, Erik Nachtrieb (CEO, SetJetters) was invited to present a keynote address on Film Tourism, and how travel organizations can embrace this growing tourism sector. The Oregon Film Trail is partnered with SetJetters to raise Oregon’s filmed history profile, both within our Oregon communities and beyond the state boundaries.

Below are some key takeaways from Nachtrieb’s presentation:

Film tourism is a $66B dollar industry and is described by Expedia Group as the new direction of travel.

Join us for one of two upcoming fundraising events to support local female filmmaker, Onyx Baird, in completing her feature-length documentary, Amrita! You will get a chance to hear about Onyx’s journey in making the film, as well as get a sneak peek of the film in progress.

Events will be hosted by Urban Nest Realty (Nov 9th 6:30-8:30PM) and Only Today Studio (Nov 11th 6-8PM)
