Leverage and Portlandia and Grimm – Oh My!

Over the course of Oregon’s 103 year cinematic history, 300+ productions have made use of our diverse locations and home-grown talent pool. However, this summer will be the first time that we’ll be playing host to three television series shooting simultaneously – Leverage, Portlandia and Grimm – and all based in the Portland Metro area.  It’s an incredibly exciting thing both for the city and Oregon’s film and television industry on the whole, but what does that mean for those of us not on set besides seeing an abundance of large trailers filling  the streets near our office buildings? “Portlandia” Renewed for Second Season

Both TV Squad and the Huffington Post have announced that Portlandia has been renewed for a second season, while still having two of the six season one episodes yet to air.  The network has ordered 10 new half-hour episodes to premiere in January 2012.

“We’re thrilled with the success of Portlandia and the overwhelmingly positive feedback from
our viewers,” IFC’s senior vice president of original programming Debbie DeMontreux said in the announcement. “Fred and Carrie’s humor is perfectly in line with the sensibility and comedic tone of IFC which makes this show such a great fit for us. “Portlandia” – A Tourism Destination

There have been a few naysayers who have stated that “Portlandia” is bad for Portland’s image.  Some have said that the video “The Dream of the 90’s” on YouTube is going to ruin the business climate and dive us deeper into a recession.  Well for all of you who believe this myth and those who think all this fuss is silly, look no further than the Irish Times.  I was sent this article today by Jennifer Yocom from Mayor Adam’s office which is a great tourism piece for Portland and Oregon.   Continue reading... ““Portlandia” – A Tourism Destination”

Video Footage of the NYC Premiere of Portlandia

It was a great night at the Edison Ballroom Wednesday night as IFC put together a fantastic party for “Portlandia”.  The space was decked out in everything Portland – Douglas Fir trees, cocktail tables with bicycle tires, and of course plenty of birds!  Local winery Argyle Wines had their 2007 Pinot featured and Rogue Ales was there serving their Dead Guy Ale.  Everyone that attended also got one of the signature “Portlandia” bottles.  I think the entire SNL cast was there along with Lorne Michaels, Heather Graham, Kyle MacLaclan, and “Kenneth” from “30 Rock”.  Continue reading... “Video Footage of the NYC Premiere of Portlandia”

Portlandia In Times Square For A Day

47th and Broadway

The “Portlandia” east coast premiere is tonight in New York (Edison Ballroom) and is showing a strong Portland presence at 47th and Broadway, right off Times Square.  An eclectic variety of Oregon products will make up the goody bags, Rogue Ales created a special “Portlandia” bottle to serve and Portland band, The Thermals, will be playing.  All in all, a true Portland experience right there in New York.

Interestingly, some screening events are popping up in and around  New York and Portland when the 6 part IFC series begins airing, Friday 21st at 10.30ET/PT. Continue reading... “Portlandia In Times Square For A Day”

Rogue Makes a Portlandia Beer and Bottle

When Rogue Ales was approached with the idea of creating a special beer bottle to support the IFC show “Portlandia”, without hesitation they said – sign us up!  The end result is a special “Portlandia” bottle (bottle artwork is above) which will be available at the “Portlandia” premiere in New York City on January 19.  Rogue is also talking to the group planning the Portland premiere next Friday to perhaps provide a few of these limited edition bottles.  This is not the first time Rogue has been supportive of the local film and TV scene in Oregon.  Continue reading... “Rogue Makes a Portlandia Beer and Bottle”
