I found this article in the Sunday New York Times about the upcoming IFC show “Portlandia”. The show is not only proving to be one that the media is interested in covering (it’s been in Entertainment Weekly and many local pubs) but it’s managed to stir up some interesting debate.
I went to last night’s sold out Live Wire show which was fantastic! The first hour was their coming Christmas night radio broadcast and it was packed with entertainment. If you don’t podcast the show, you should. The second hour was for a show that will air January 15 and it featured Gus Van Sant and Carrie Brownstein. Carrie did a fun skit with the team from the show who affectionately call themselves “Faces For Radio Theater”. Show host Courtenay Hameister played a clip from “Portlandia” titled “Dream of the 90’s is Alive in Portland”. Continue reading... ““Dream of the 90’s is Alive in Portland” – Portlandia”
The Independent Film Channel is beginning to roll out more footage for the upcoming series “Portlandia”. At the film office, we’re waiting with baited breath for the premiere air date on January 21. Actually we’ve been invited to participate in the premiere party in New York City on January 19 as a sponsor. The premiere party will be at the Edison Ballroom in Mid Town Manhattan and IFC is committed to making the party all about Portland (rumor has it a popular local band will be performing). Continue reading... ““Portlandia”!!!! Footage Available.”
In today’s Oregonian Kristi Turnquist writes about IFC’s announcement of “Portlandia’s” premiere date. I’ve had several conversations with IFC about their plans for promoting the show and I can say that the cable network is 100% behind “Portlandia”. Expect to hear of some cool promotional efforts surrounding the show soon! In the meantime, set your DVR’s for January 21 for the premiere episode!
In case you haven’t already caught Aaron Mesh’s profile on Carrie Brownstein, here’s a link to the article. Carrie’s diverse talents as musician, writer and actor make her a perfect representation of Portland’s creative class. I don’t know if it’s because you need to be versatile to make a career in a small market like Oregon, or if it’s in the fabric of the region that creative professionals have many talents.
So I love nothing more than doing a little googling on a Thursday night (kind of sad commentary) and I came upon this piece that aired on KOIN this week. Last week the principals of the the show “Portlandia” held a low key press conference and KOIN’s show Studio 6 covered the press conference as well as the other local media outlets. They got some good stuff from Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein so check it out!
Just picked this up from Kristi Turnquit’s article in The Oregonian and Willamette Week blog. Sounds like the IFC show “Portlandia” will be able to use the popular Musicfest Northwest to its benefit. According to the report in the blog, the show will be shooting part of its series at the Festival next week. Also in the article is the mention of several guest appearances in the show – band members from the Shins and Decemberists, Gus Van Sant, Selma Blair, Kyle MacLachlan and Steve Buscemi. I was just scanning the twitter universe and picked up on a tweet from Aimee Mann (thanks PA Wilhelm!). Apparently she just left Portland after doing a bit on the show “Portlandia”. Here’s her tweet –
I had a great time shooting my thing in “Portlandia.” Fred and Carrie are so hilarious together. It was very fun! But weirdly exhausting!
Although “Portlandia” is not due out on IFC until next year, I’m guessing it’s going to build it’s own audience before anyone sees a frame of footage. Continue reading... “Aimee Mann in "Portlandia"?”
‘SNL’ vet Armisen co-created, co-stars in sketch series
IFC has given a greenlight to a Lorne Michaels-exec produced sketch comedy half-hour, “Portlandia,” co-created by and starring Fred Armisen of “Saturday Night Live.”
The series, which begins production of six episodes in Portland, Ore., this month, is scheduled to premiere on IFC in early 2011. Former Sleater-Kinney guitarist Carrie Brownstein co-created “Portlandia” with Armisen and co-stars in the series, which will be directed by fellow creator Jonathan Krisel of “SNL.” Continue reading... “IFC Takes Comedy Journey to ‘Portlandia’”
