Governor's Conference on Toursim

Over 500 people from the tourism industry were at the three day conference held at the River House Hotel and Conference center in Bend.  Governor Ted Kulongoski was in attendance and talked about the economic impact tourism has had on Oregon.  Of specific interest to the production community, the Governor acknowledged in his Monday morning address, a major growth in the amount of money film companies have spent in Oregon in the last few years, expanding from $10 million to $80.

Three Event Screenings of "Not Dead Yet" at the Hollywood Theater

Hot Flash Films PDX and Velocity Sisterhood presents three separate event screenings of “Not Dead Yet”, a dramedy about life, hot flashes, and profound re-awakenings, at the Hollywood Theater April 23rd-25th. All ticket sales will be benefiting five Portland area women’s non-profits:  Life By Design NW, Oregon Women Lawyers Foundation, NARAL Pro-Choice and OAASIS – Oregon Association of Abuse Survivors in Service.

Interview with Lauren Selman

Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art Debuts Polaroid Portraits by Andy Warhol and Gus Van Sant

The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art opens its new exhibition “One Step Big Shot: Portraits by Andy Warhol and Gus Van Sant” on May 16, 2010. The exhibition will be on display through Sept. 5, 2010.

The public is invited to a free opening reception on Saturday, May 15th, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. featuring music by the Portland band The Hugs.

It’s Not Easy Being Green…

Playing in the Ashland Independent Film Festival this year (April 8-12) is “Greenlit,” the documentary chronicling the attempt to make the feature film, “The River Why “green” from pre through post-production.  The film portrays the enthusiasm, challenges and successes when trying to green a film.  “The River Why” was shot entirely on location in Oregon.

Following the screening of “Greenlit,” a panel will discuss what it means to live and work green in the entertainment industry.

Art Institute Film to Premiere at Hot Docs Toronto

For the third year in a row, the students of the Winter quarter Documentary Production class at the Art Institute of Portland won a position among the International Documentary Challenge finalists.  The Doc Challenge is a 5-day international filmmaking competition that takes place each March.

The film, Death Goes Green, an intimate portrait of the pioneers of Oregon’s green burial movement, will premiere at the prestigious Hot Docs International Film Festival in Toronto, Canada on May 2nd, where it is up for additional commendations.
