The recently-launched SmashTheHive Studio in SE Portland has just debuted its first production —the “My American Waistline” animated comedy series. This fearless, unapologetic and politically-incorrect collection of bite-size shorts leaves no muffin top unturned or moob unchafed in its unsparing quest to expose America’s fixation on over-eating, under-eating, ripped abs, apple bottoms and surgical enhancement.

The project is the brainchild of SmashTheHive founder and award-winning sound designer Jason Edwards, whose credits include ten independent features, numerous animated shorts and three major network television series. In partnership with the Port of Portland, the Hollywood Theatre is opening a first-of-its-kind free microcinema at Portland International Airport today’s. The Hollywood Theatre at PDX will feature short films by Oregon filmmakers and host special events and visiting guests.Read more.

The #OregonMade exhibit, that has seen over 1.2 million pass by it in the last 7 months, closed yesterday.

Athena Joins The Oregon Film Trail

A brand new Oregon Film Trail sign has been installed and was unveiled today in Athena, honoring the town’s starring role as a location in the silent film, City Girl. It sits outside the Gem Theatre, Athena. The Gem Theatre hosted the dedication of the newest sign on the Oregon Film Trail, in celebration of the local filming of this F.W. Murnau silent feature film.

A good week for Emmy nominations for #OregonMade creatives!

Weiden and Kennedy received their 21st Emmy nomination for their Outstanding Commercial, “Dream Crazy” for Nike, featuring Colin Kaepernick.

Kamp Grizzly was nominated for Outstanding Commercial for the Netflix ad, “A Great Day In Hollywood”

Crofton Diack, Producer for National Geographic/BBC Studios on their series, “Life Below Zero,” was nominated for Outstanding Unstructured Realty Program.

IFC’s “Documentary Now” gathered up a handful of nominations, such as; Outstanding Variety Sketch Series, Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series, Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics, and Outstanding Directing for a Variety Series (to Portland native, Alex Buono).
