When my husband Davon and I started production on our film, A Public Space, we had little idea of what to expect. The film centers on the fate of the now defunct College Hill Reservoir in Eugene, Oregon, and explores the larger significance of public space. While Davon is an accomplished editor, this was our first filmmaking collaboration, and although we deeply believed in the idea, we weren’t sure how it would be received in the community.

Magenta Light Studios will be giving Strange Darling a wide theatrical release in the United States on August 23rd – and a new trailer for the film has arrived online, along with a pair of posters.
Shot in Oregon last year, “Strange Darling” was written and directed by J.T. Mollner (Outlaws and Angels) and was produced by former Miramax CEO Bill Block, Chris Ivan Cevic, Steven Schneider, Roy Lee, and actor Giovanni Ribisi, who also served as the director of photography. An engineer from S Africa with a creative bent, Owen started his film career in the Motion Picture & TV industry at Pinewood Studios with Superman, and climbed the ranks to Gaffer and Director of Photography on a long list of feature films, music videos, and tv commercials, working alongside some of the top cinematographers in the world.

In an effort to raise visibility for Native American and Indigenous voices in film, the McMinnville Short Film Festival (MSFF) is awarding a $10k grant to a PNW-based filmmaker or filmmaking team. Applicants with films at all stages (from development to post production) are encouraged to apply and must complete 50% of production in Oregon.
