What has Oregon Film been up to? – After assuring our industry worked so well through the turbulent pandemic period with several projects of all sizes, 2022 started off with a slow down. Needless to say, Oregon is still attractive and a great place to bring your creative production. Recently we worked with the state legislature and partners like the OMPA and the IATSE and SAG-AFTRA unions to increase the film and media cash rebate percentages from 18% to 25%. It’s February Encore Screening time. Opening up February 13 for our virtual encore series, this month features Lauren Everett’s short doc THUNDAAR LIVES!, Jen Elkington’s JEAN, Rollyn Stafford’s ZOMBIE WALK, and Kerry O’Neill’s short narrative BEA AT REHAB. The short film block will be available until the end of February.
The encore screening series is a way to share #EOFF2021 short films with our community of friends, filmmakers, and audiences alike as we build out our ‘Friends of the Festival’ catalog and make large steps towards our The Liberty Theatre’s opening and our thirteenth annual program scheduled for OCTOBER 20-22, 2022.
We are finally seeing the light at the end of a very long tunnel for many of us. This doesn’t mean the work is done or there won’t be challenges and changes going forward, but it does mean that we are starting to see more opportunity and more creativity in all areas of our industry here in Oregon.
Oregon’s open spaces and outdoor pursuits are for all Americans and visitors, yet there is a well-documented inequity in America that is deeply rooted in our shared cultural history, and as a whole, our outdoor spaces are not equally utilized for a multitude of historical, social and cultural reasons. The Outdoor Adventure Film Grant ’21 (OAFG21) aims to help support and amplify stories and storytellers (both in front of and behind the camera) utilizing Oregon’s outdoor spaces as a backdrop. Blue Chalk Media were the winners the 2019 $15,000 “Winter Season Grant” – provided by the OregonMade Creative Foundation and Travel Oregon – and have now successfully created two short films of “moving postcard stories” based on the brief to make a film series that would “captivate and encourage people to experience the winter season for themselves.”
The Portland Film Office, in partnership with Oregon Made Creative Foundation (OMCF), invites local filmmakers to apply for funding designed to encourage the completion of a local feature-length project and position producers to build towards larger, more resourced productions.
The Post-Production Film Grant Programsupports the professional development of small, local filmmakers by providing funds for activities including sound design, scoring, editing, color correction, closed captioning, VFX, and music clearances using local post-production houses.
Together with award-winning animation studio ShadowMachine, the #OregonMade Creative Foundation has just launched a unique paid apprenticeship program focusing on hands-on, stop-motion animation production work.
ShadowMachine is about to go into production on a stop-motion series and we have worked together to create two, three month, paid apprenticeship positions on the project.
