I went to last night’s sold out Live Wire show which was fantastic! The first hour was their coming Christmas night radio broadcast and it was packed with entertainment. If you don’t podcast the show, you should. The second hour was for a show that will air January 15 and it featured Gus Van Sant and Carrie Brownstein. Carrie did a fun skit with the team from the show who affectionately call themselves “Faces For Radio Theater”. Four filmmakers embarked on a doomed location scout in the forests of the Pacific Northwest. What started as a preliminary scout at the base of the cascades, ended in a bloodbath in the unforgiving wilderness. ‘Evidence of the Sasquatch’ is the film shot during this scouting by the filmmakers. This footage was found and the film was put together chronologically to show what these pour souls experienced in the days leading up to their final moments. Lauren Henry from Corvallis based Talented Animals was on KOIN’s show Studio 6 yesterday. Lauren has been a great resource for the Oregon Film community as she’s always out there plugging our state as a great place to film. I also happened to be in a meeting yesterday where I met John Sechrest from Corvallis and the one thing he mentioned relating to Oregon Film was this video. The Venice International Film Festival announced that Kelly Reichardt’s feature “Meeks Cutoff” which was shot in Burns, OR, will be in competition at this year’s festival in September. The film was produced by Oregon native Neil Kopp and it is his third film with Kelly (“Old Joy” and “Wendy and Lucy“). The film stars Michelle Williams, Bruce Greenwood, and Paul Dano. Recently Paul Dano talked about filming “Meeks” in this interview. For those who don’t know the story behind the making of the film, it’s pretty remarkable that they were even able to complete the film.
