“Wild” Locations Get Recognition At LMGA Awards

Congratulations to Nancy Haecker  (“Wild“),  who, at the second annual Location Managers Guild of America Awards, won for “Outstanding Locations in a Contemporary Film”.  The awards took place at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills on Saturday night.

According to Variety, Haecker read Cheryl Strayed’s memoir, “Wild”, during a flight, and was so enthused that she wanted to scout the film project.   Even though most of the film plays for California, around 60 locations in Oregon were scouted by Haecker; from the high desert in central Oregon, the city of Ashland, Crater Lake, the Portland metro area, to the Bridge of the Gods in the Columbia River Valley Gorge.  Continue reading... ““Wild” Locations Get Recognition At LMGA Awards”

MovieMaker Magazine Names Portland in Top Ten Big Cities to Live and Work as a Moviemaker 2015

MovieMaker Magazine named Portland in their Best Places to Live and Work as a Moviemaker Top 10 Big Cities.  The magazine noted the city has many independent movie theaters, is homes to animation studios such as Laika, and educational programs within the Portland metro area such NW Film Center, Art Institute and PSU.  Read more here.  Ashland, Oregon was named #1 Best Places to Live and Work as a Moviemaker 2015 in the Top Five Towns category. Siskiyou FilmFest Begins January 30th, Grants Pass

The Siskiyou FilmFest began in 2002 in Ashland, moving to Grants Pass in 2008, and in 2009 began encompassing small towns in the Rogue Valley into their screening repertoire. Additionally,  the festival added the KidFest for elementary aged children, as well as Youth Video contest for middle and high school aged kids.

The 13th Annual Siskiyou FilmFest runs January 30-31st at Grants Pass High School Performing Art Center.  The festival focuses on “the the activism, science and history of the environmental movement and features award winning films about people creating real world solutions to today’s environmental challenges on a local, regional and global scale. Governor’s Office of Film & Television Nominated For LMGA Award For Work On “Wild”

LMGAThe Oregon Governor’s Office of Film & Television (AKA The Oregon Film Office) has been nominated for consideration for a Location Managers Guild of America  Award for “exemplary work on WILD“.  Winners will be chosen after a vote from active and retired members of the LMGA the finalists were announced January 27th, with final balloting of the nominees taking place February 6th.  The second Annual Awards Show will be help in Los Angeles on March 7th.

“Wild” In Oregon!

It seemed fitting that Fox Searchlight’sWild“, special-screened in four Oregon cities the second week in December. The screenings kicked off with the Oregon premiere of the movie at Cinema 21 , Portland.  Reese Witherspoon (nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Actress), Laura Dern, Jean-Marc Vallée , and of course local Portlander and inspiration, Cheryl Strayed, were on hand to introduce the movie to a packed house, as well as an introduction from Tim Williams, Oregon Film’s Executive Director. WILD Contest Has Oregon Covered

Fox Searchlight unveiled the #LifeisWILD contest this week as a headliner in promoting Reese Witherspoon‘s WILD.  Oregon Film was approached by Fox Searchlight to help put this contest together as an interactive and creative way to bring attention to the movie, and in so doing, the Pacific Crest Trail, and Oregon simultaneously.  Oregon Film collaborated with Travel Oregon to pull together a fantastic Grand Prize package of a week long trip to Oregon for the winner and a friend.  Continue reading... “WILD Contest Has Oregon Covered”

Fox Searchlight’s “Wild” Premieres In Telluride

The 41st Telluride Film Festival announced it’s lineup today. THE DISCOVERERS Opens June 20, Meet Filmmakers Opening Night

The Oregon-made feature film, The Discoverers, starring Oscar and Emmy nominee Griffin Dunne will have its Pacific Northwest premiere at the Regal Fox Tower in Portland on June 20. Writer/director Justin Schwarz will attend the 7pm show for a Q&A with his Portland-based crew. The film will expand to Salem, Eugene, Sisters, Ashland and more cities throughout the summer.
