#OregonMade “Lorelei” to Premiere at Tribeca

The #OregonMade movie, Lorelei, will have its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in April, 2020. The film shot in various locations in Portland, Clackamas County, Marion County, Multnomah County and Washington County in 2018.

Lorelei stars Pablo Schreiber (Den of Thieves, Orange is the New Black, The Wire) and Jena Malone (The Hunger Games, The Neon Demon, Inherent Vice), along with a cast of local actors cast by Simon Max Hill.

It’s been 35 years since The Goonies audiences first went in search of treasure with a lovable band of kids from Astoria into the caves beneath the northern Oregon coastline and Ecola State Park. To celebrate the 35th anniversary of the film, Oregon Film and Travel Oregon will offer public screenings of the movie in several cities around the state—from Salem Cinema to BendFilm and Eugene’s Broadway Metro to Baker City.

“First Cow,” shot entirely on location in Oregon last year. “A taciturn loner and skilled cook (John Magaro) has traveled west and joined a group of fur trappers in Oregon Territory, though he only finds true connection with a Chinese immigrant (Orion Lee) also seeking his fortune; soon the two collaborate on a successful business, although its longevity is reliant upon the clandestine participation of a nearby wealthy landowner’s prized milking cow.”

Writer-director, Kelly Reichardt, has used Oregon for the backdrop of many of her features and indeed many of the production team (such as producers, Neil Kopp, Anish Savjani and Vincent Savino) have worked together on other #OregonMade projects such as; “Wendy and Lucy,” “Night Moves,” “Meek’s Cutoff” and “Certain Women” among others. Scott Vanderpool, welding design and fabrication specialist for Portland Parks & Recreation and owner of Iron Stone Forge, LLC, has been designing and fabricating for business and pleasure in Portland for many years. “I prefer to do artwork and technical/precision fabrications but I bring the artistic side whenever I can. Even something as simple as the welding itself.” Vanderpool’s background is in aerospace and military, he has built critical aircraft, helicopters, rockets and assault boats made from steels to aluminum and titanium alloys. The Ashland Independent Film Festival announced today the opening of the AIFF Film Center, the newest addition to Ashland’s vibrant visual and literary arts scene on East Main Street.

The new AIFF Film Center will serve as a year-round social hub for film lovers and provide expanded office space for the growing organization. During its annual flagship festival in April, the center will also serve as a gathering space for members and volunteers.“We are excited by the opportunity to start offering screenings and workshops year round,” said Richard Herskowitz, executive and artistic director of AIFF.

“The Birch” is a new #OregonMade original Facebook Watch Original web series starring, Xaria Dotson, Dempsey Bryk, and Tommy Westmark. The horror drama chronicles the frightening tale of, “a teenager seeking out the help of a monster who lives in the woods”and is based on the short film, ‘The Birch’ (2016). The original short had well over 35 million online views and went on to win a Webby for “Best Drama: Individual Short or Episode” in 2017 (and was also featured at Tribeca Film Festival 2017).
