“Meek’s Cutoff” Opens at Portland’s Fox Tower on Friday

For all of you who haven’t seen “Meek’s Cutoff”, the film opens at Portland’s Fox Tower on Friday.  Local Writer Jon Raymond and Producer Neil Kopp will be on hand for a Q&A session at screenings on Friday and Saturday night.  Almost a month ago we held a screening of the film at the Elsinore Theater in Salem and the film was very well received.  It is a stunningly beautiful film featuring great acting, great directing and great locations!  Please do check the schedule of the Fox Tower later in the week to get more details about the show times as well as the times that Jon and Neil will be doing their Q&A. “Black Friday” Returns to The Hollywood Theatre on November 8

“Home” transcends mere walls and roofs. Two short films explore the changing landscape of “home” through the eyes of Black Portlanders with the premiere of episode 2 of the award-winning series Where We Goin’ and the continuation of our Elder Anthologies series which features a moving letter from past Portland NAACP president Sharon Gary-Smith to the youth of the Rose City.

Where We Goin’ Episode II: The Power of Place follows art producer Intisar Abioto (Black Portlanders, Black Artists of Oregon) and Winta Yohannes of Albina Vision Trust the largest restorative redevelopment project in the country, we journey into the heart of neighborhoods once vibrant and thriving, now shadowed by a history of displacement and loss. BendFilm BIPOC Women Filmmaker Grant Application 2024

BendFilm’s Black, Indigenous, Person of Color (BIPOC) Women Filmmaking Grant will support a woman BIPOC artist with $10,000 toward making their short or feature film. The grant supports storytellers who are working to tell creative and complex stories told from a point of view that is unique and authentic.

On-screen representation affects cultural understanding of BIPOC, women, and LGBTQ+ characters. Barriers need to be broken down until equal representation is achieved on-screen and behind the camera.

The application period for Mountainfilm’s Commitment Grant and Emerging Filmmaker Fellowship opens soon. We accept grant applications from August 14 to September 5, 2024.

Mountainfilm Commitment Grants
This year we are offering a total of $60,000 in grants to filmmakers, with individual grants ranging from $5,000 to $1,000. The Commitment Grant supports documentary filmmakers in the production or post-production stages. We are looking for non-fiction stories celebrating adventure, activism, social justice, culture, the environment, and indomitable spirit. Filmmakers from any country are welcome to apply. A new comedic mystery TV series and video game are afoot, each designed to humor, surprise, and rouse mystery fans of all age groups.

The highly anticipated pilot episode of Sherlock Holmes-esque FOGTOWN© premieres 7:00 pm, Thursday August 22nd at a special event in Portland, Ore. hosted by PAMCUT at The Tomorrow Theater. Being a huge 80’s movie fan – especially “The Goonies” and “Stand By Me” – it has long been a dream of mine to take a trip to Oregon and visit the towns of Astoria and Brownsville where some of my favorite movie scenes were filmed, and this year, after a lot of planning, that dream finally came true. After a nine-and-a-half-hour flight from London to Seattle, then a two-and-a-half-hour drive from Seattle we finally arrived in Astoria and were greeted by our first Airbnb host, Judith.
