PAM CUT’s Tomorrow Theatre will be showing several Oregon related Films and Performances in March. Michael Palmieri and Donal Mosher’s beloved documentary “The Gospel of Eureka,” Astoria shot “Sometimes I Think About Dying” with Daisy Ridley and Kelly Reichardt’s “Showing Up” will be featured alongside screenings with support from Carla Rossi and local comedians and music videos.

Mark Gustafson – #OregonMade and Oregon Loved.

Mark Gustafson, who won an Oscar last year for co-directing the animated feature “Guillermo del Toro‘s Pinocchio” and a cornerstone of Oregon’s deep and diverse animation community, died on Thursday. He was 64.

Mark has a long and storied history in Oregon. He began his animation career in the 1980s with Will Vinton and worked in many different types of animation. His claymation work can be seen in the 1987 TV special “Claymation Christmas Celebration,” “The PJs” series starring Eddie Murphy and the TV special “Meet the Raisins,” starring the iconic California Raisins. OPB recently interviewed the filmmakers and featured participants of the locally produced documentary “Downwind.”

“Downwind” looks at how miscalculated wind forecasts, government proclamations that radiation exposure wasn’t a serious health threat, and revelations from now-declassified documents referring to those who lived near the test site as a “low use segment of the population” potentially contributed to illnesses suffered by Americans who were never warned about the dangers of living near the test sites. Who Are We? We are a small (4 people) semi-independent state agency. We work closely with other agencies such as:

  • Business Oregon
  • Travel Oregon
  • Department of Revenue
  • Oregon Parks & Recreation (Oregon State Parks)
  • Oregon Governor’s Office

In its ongoing commitment to amplify and support the role of the producer, Dear Producer is proud to be continuing the Dear Producer Award in 2024, and launching an open application for year three of the Award (in previous years, producers chosen for the Award were by industry recommendation only).

The Events and Film Office at Prosper Portland, in partnership with Travel Portland, has selected three recipients of the Amplify Portland: Local Filmmakers Production Grant. The Amplify Portland Grant seeks to create opportunity for filmmakers using local talent, crew, and vendors during production. The grant contributes to productions that build professional development within the local industry and bring exposure to Portland through unique stories with diverse representation both in front of and behind the camera.

The Oregon Film Museum and the Astoria International Film Festival present an evening of Vampira on Friday, October 27 at the Liberty Theater in Astoria.  It is a free event beginning at 7:00 pm, doors open at 6:00 pm.

Actress Maila Nurmi—better known as her alter-ego, TV’s original horror host Vampira—lived in Astoria from 1939-1941, graduating from high school here and working to save enough money to try her hand at Hollywood fame. Before starring in her character’s eponymously-named Vampira Show or in director Ed Wood’s cult-classic Plan 9 from Outer Space, Maila passed her days in Astoria dancing the jitterbug and driving the local bookmobile. The Oregon Film Museum seeks to inspire the next generation of storytellers in Oregon.  We are excited to announce the “Oregon Film Museum Selig Award” that will be presented annually to a young Oregonian involved in the local film industry.

Partnering with “Outside the Frame” we have identified the first recipient: Fevan “Rose” Solomon.

Solomon will receive the award and a small stipend on November 10 at the Liberty Theater in Astoria at 7:00 pm.  Solomon’s documentary film “Stories I’ve Told the Stars” will be screened followed by a Q & A with the filmmaker.  Continue reading... “Oregon Film Museum to Present “Selig Award””

Our mission focuses on the planet and how it has continued to change the climate, species degradation, landscape fragmentation, and population growth. 

Giving up isn’t an option. We need to find a way forward.
