LAIKA Acquires Rights to Develop Colin Meloy’s and Carson Ellis’ “Wildwood”

Today LAIKA announced it has optioned the film rights to the recently released novel “Wildwood”.  The novel was written by Decemberists front man Colin Meloy with the book illustrations done by Carson Ellis.  This announcement is more proof that Oregon’s creative industry is in full swing on many different levels and now those entities are collaborating.  The novel is the first of a planned three books set in an alternative version of Portland focusing on Forest Park.  LAIKA’s announcement appeared in this Variety article. LAIKA Creates Trailer For New Colin Meloy Book

“How five crows managed to lift a 20-pound baby boy into the air was beyond Prue, but that was certainly the least of her worries.”

As if being the lead singer of one of the most highly-thought of bands around wasn’t enough, Colin Meloy – front man for the Decembrists – has added author extraordinaire to his list of titles. His children’s book Wildwood, the first in a series, is set to hit stores August 30th.

Oregon’s LAIKA Studio Launches New Website and Demo Video

In addition to a recent announcement made by Oregon’s LAIKA animation studio in early May about two new feature film projects, LAIKA also rolled out a newly designed website including the video included below. The video provides another example of the hand-made artisan craft and expertise utilizing cutting edge technology Oregon firms possess.

LAIKA and Focus Features Announce Two New Feature Film Projects in Oregon

“ParaNorman” Getting Halloween Re-Release in 3D

Laika’s beloved stop-motion film “ParaNorman” is returning to theaters this Halloween for a one-week engagement, now in a newly remastered RealD 3D format. The limited run, announced at the Annecy Animation Festival, will also feature the world premiere of a brand-new CG short film, “ParaNorman: The Thrifting,” starring Anna Kendrick and Finn Wolfhard.

“Coraline’s Curious Cat Trail” Raised $244,000 For OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital!

Coraline’s Curious Cat Trail

Last week an auction of all 31 “Coraline’s Curious Cat Trail”  sculptures took place at The Judy and raised a total $244,000 for OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital.

LAIKA, the Visit Downtown Campaign, Wild in Art, and OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital joined forces to bring Coraline’s Curious Cat Trail to the Rose City last August in celebration of “Coraline’s” 15th anniversary.
