DisOrient Asian American Film Festival Returns in Feb-Mar

The 18th annual DisOrient Asian American Film Festival of Oregon is a hybrid festival with an exceptional line-up of both live and virtual film screenings as well as in-person filmmaker Q&A’s. All live screenings will be at the Art House in Eugene.

We launch our 2023 season with a Preview Screening on Feb. 24 (live) and Feb. 25-26 (virtual)! In March, join us at the Art House theaters for March 10-12 and on our virtual platform on March 13-19. Don’t miss this 10 day celebration of AANHPI independent films!

McMinnville Short Film Festival Opens this Weekend

MSFF runs from February 23 to February 27 in beautiful McMinnville.

The McMinnville Short Film Festival fosters a critical component of Oregon’s Yamhill County arts community by connecting local filmmakers with their counterparts around the world, and by providing a venue for culturally diverse screenings, events, and gatherings.

“In The Clear” – Learn About Clearances from Legal Experts @PAMCut

Join PAM CUT, and attorneys Rachel Goldberg and Christopher Weathers on a deep dive into the world of Rights, Clearances, and Fair Use for media projects including film, television, video games, XR, etc.

This professional development workshop, supported by the Oregon Film’s Creative Opportunity Program will take a closer look at just what it entails for a media maker to inquire about, license, or incorporate into their project intellectual property such as music, images, artwork, and more. Along for the ride, seasoned producer David Cress will provide real-world examples of issues that have arisen on productions and how they could have been avoided.

Confluence Announces Filmmaker Fellows Program

Confluence is pleased to announce the Confluence Filmmaker Fellows program in partnership with Oregon Film and the Creative Opportunity Program. Three Indigenous video artists with a cultural connection to Oregon will receive cash prizes to support a film project they are developing: one for $5,000 and two for $2,500. Four other Emerging Indigenous Filmmakers will receive full camera kits so that they can take their craft to the next level.

(Partially) #oregonmade “65” Sees A Release Date Of March 10th

Sony Pictures Entertainment’s US release of (partly) #oregonmade “65” is set for March 10th. Scott Beck and Bryan Woods (“A Quiet Place”) wrote, directed, and produced the film. The cast is comprised of Adam Driver, Ariana Greenblatt, Chloe Coleman, and Nika King. It was filmed at several Oregon locations such as Gold Beach, Powers, Agness, Brookings, and Coos Bay, as well as Louisiana and Ireland among other locations. The logline reads, “Now, with only one chance at rescue, Mills (Driver) and the only other survivor, Koa (Ariana Greenblatt), must make their way across an unknown terrain riddled with dangerous prehistoric creatures in an epic fight to survive.

OAFG21 Grant Winner, “You Go Girl!” Gets Spotlight In New Yorker Magazine

We are excited to see Vivian Cheng’s article and spotlight in the New Yorker magazine (Interviews Issue+ Screening Room) today on Shariffa Chelimo Ali, Director + Co-writer of “You Go Girl!”.

“You Go Girl!” – the fourth annual Outdoor Adventure Film Grant– “Oregon’s Outdoors Are For Everyone” winner (OAFG21) screened at Sundance 2022 in the U.S. Live Action Short Films, and also the Oregon Shakespeare Festival O site. Filmmakers, Shariffa Ali, Kamilah Long, Courtney Williams, and Adrian Aleas’ short film tells the story of Audrey, a New York City comedian who can make a joke of any situation, facing a staggering challenge in the beautiful mountains of Oregon.

Tag! Queer Shorts Festival 2023

Tag! Queer Shorts Festival (formerly Corvallis Queer Film Festival) is celebrating its 10th anniversary year with a return to live screenings at our new home venue, the Hollywood Theatre.

This year’s festival features four blocks of all-new queer short films from around the world spread over two days, March 4-5, 2023. The Saturday evening block, West Coast Chic, is the program to attend for the best local and regional submissions.

Daisy Ridley Ruminates About The Oregon Coast And Filming “Sometimes I Think About Dying”

Daisy Ridley, (Star Wars prequel trilogy) recently shared her thoughts on the movie “Sometimes I Think About Dying” and her experiences filming in Oregon. Ridley portrays Frances, a young woman dealing with anxiety and despair, in this thought-provoking movie that recently premiered in competition at Sundance. During the filming, Ridley spent time in Astoria and on the Oregon Coast, and she had nothing but good things to say about these locations.
