School of Film Offers Claymation with Oscar-Winning Director

This winter term the Northwest Film Center’s School of Film is offering Stop-Motion Animation/Claymation with Academy Award winning director/producer Will Vinton.

Bring your characters to life with guidance from the Claymation pioneer in this 13 session course. Registration is open now, class begins January 26th, no prior experience is necessary.

Looking for something different than claymation? The School of Film is also offering Computer Animation with Flash, give your two dimensional artwork movement and depth while learning Adobe Flash software.

An New Way For Actors and Models To Promote Themselves.

Do you have a reel?  Head shot?  Website?  I’m sure if you are, or want to be, a professional actor or model you’ve been asked these questions by filmmakers, casting directors, and agents.  Sometimes the answer can be long with explanations.  Other times you have everything you need but have a hard time getting them all tightly bundled for easy consumption.

The Northwest Film Center School of Film is offering an array of weeknight and weekend hands-on classes, starting throughout January.  Write that romance you’re always thinking about, launch that documentary, meet other aspiring makers and creatives, get a leg up on entry level opportunities within the film scene, animate with an Oscar-winning director, or geek out with Super 8mm film (they still do that? YES!) and other technical workshops.

Attack of the Flix – Short film night! 10 minutes or less!

Join us at Curious Comedy Theatre, every third Sunday of the month for Attack of the Flix – a competition for Portland filmmakers with short films under 10 minutes long. All films must be submitted on USB thumb drives, nothing is screened before hand! Admission is free (donation suggested), full bar, all ages venue. Join us for an upredicatble night of art, comedy, drama, and sometimes horror! Screened live on the interwebz!

OpenLens Festival Deadline December 2nd

Eugene, OR. Friday, December 2nd is the deadline for submitting entries to the 8th Annual OpenLens Festival 2012. This year’s festival has two categories. The short film competition is for productions of 15 minutes or less in length. The screen writing competition welcomes film scripts of 15 pages or less with an emphasis on the short narrative film genre. Entries for both must be received by DIVA by 5PM on December 2nd. Winter Break Animation for Grades 7-12

COMPUTER ANIMATION FOR GRADES 7-12

at the Northwest Film Center School of Film

 

MONDAY-FRIDAY, DEC 26-30, NOON-5 PM

Bring two-dimensional graphic artwork to life using Adobe Flash software on Apple digital workstations. Learn how animators create motion using techniques such as keyframes, squash and stretch, and metamorphosis. Animate video stills and/or scan in and manipulate your own artwork. Record the action frame by frame as you create your own animated sequences with your own recorded audio. The week will culminate in a screening for family and friends, complete with popcorn.

On the New York Times “Couch-Potato Menu” for This Weekend’s Viewing: “Jingle All the Way”

A nice review in The New York Times for the holiday special, “Jingle All The Way”.  Bent Image Lab, a Portland, Oregon company, produced this 22 minute animated short for the Hallmark Channel over a six month period.  It is set to premier this Friday 25th.
