Oregon Film’s 50th Anniversary Trailer of #OregonMade Productions Plays Hollywood PDX

Oregon Film turns 50 this year and to celebrate we commissioned filmmaker & editor Josh Lunden and composer Jake Hull to put together a fantastic new trailer that celebrates more than 109 years of film, television, animation, commercial and interactive production here in the state.

Featuring many, many clips from #OregonMade films sourced edited together by Lunden and a live score specially written and recorded by Hull, the trailer takes a 3 minute journey from the earliest of silent films to the latest Oscar Nomination for “Kubo and the Two Strings” – and everything in between.

PORTLAND FILMMAKER JOSH HOFFMAN TO WORLD PREMIERE LATEST HORROR FILM

 

Bloated Cat Productions and Penguin Films will World Premiere their latest horror feature film, UNDER THE KNIFE, at the Yubari International Fantastic Film Festival 2018 on Saturday, March 17th at 9pm. Among the world’s elite genre festivals, Yubari, now in its 28th year, is the largest horror festival in Japan.

#OregonMade Animation Apprenticeship Now Open for Applications

Together with award-winning animation studio ShadowMachine, the #OregonMade Creative Foundation has just launched a unique paid apprenticeship program focusing on hands-on, stop-motion animation production work.

ShadowMachine is about to go into production on a stop-motion series and we have worked together to create two, three month, paid apprenticeship positions on the project.

41st Portland International Film Festival Begins Feb 15

The 41st Portland International Film Festival will run February 15- March 1.  Passes and tickets are now on sale.

Since 1977, the Portland International Film Festival has been the Northwest Film Center’s annual showcase of new world cinema. Over three weeks in February, through the exhibition of nearly 100 feature films and 60+ short films, PIFF audiences across the City of Portland travel the globe in theater seats through our celebration of the world’s filmmakers and cinephiles.

#OregonMade “Leave No Trace” Acquired By Sony Worldwide + Bleecker Street

Debra Granik (“Winter’s Bone”) directed the #OregonMade “Leave No Trace”  premiered at Sundance at the end of last month.  After the rave reviews Sony Pictures Worldwide was quick to acquire international rights, and Bleecker Sreet has aquired North Americn rights. “Leave No Trace,” set in Portland’s Forest Park, tells the tale of  Will and his teenage daughter, Tom, who “have lived off the grid, blissfully undetected by authorities in a vast nature reserve on the edge of Portland.

This week our Raider/Contributor skates back to the 70’s to that highest of high times for that uber-niche genre of Roller Derby films. Whether you just barely remember Rollerball (the original) or your obsessed with Unholy Rollers, or you are more of a Roller Derby Modernist and rely on Rollerball (the remake) and Whip It, you must acknowledge that the Godmother of them all is Kansas City Bomber. But did you know that KC was actually happiest Portland? Raider/Contributor Phil Oppenheim takes us under the laces and beneath the helmet(less)s of the 1972 Raquel Welch classic…

Karen Doesn’t Dream (2018) – Teaser

 

Over the course of the last year, Portland State University Television (PSUTV) has been creating a feature film: Karen Doesn’t Dream.

This psychological drama follows Karen, a 27 year-old porn store employee and Seaside resident. Karen’s job has always been dreary and monotonous, serving the tourists and tenants of Seaside. But that was before she found the sleep tapes… To what extent will Karen feed a growing addiction, and what will this addiction bring out of her?

Produced and created by PSU Students, the project involved over 150 volunteers and thousands of hours of work.

Portland and Ashland Voted Best Places To Live + Work By MovieMaker

MovieMaker Magazine has annouced their “Best Places to Live and Work as a moviemaker” with Portland coming in at #11 in the “Big Cities” category, and Ashland at #5 in the “Small Cities” category.  Ashalnd was  beaten out by New Orleans, Savannah, Santa Fe, and Pittsburg, and Portland by Atlanta, Vancouver (BC), Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, Albuquerque, Boston, Toronto, Austin and Montreal.
