Emmy Winning Hairstylist Joe Matke (All My Children, 90210) will teach makeup artists and other beginner- and intermediate-level stylists the basics of film/TV hair design when Colour Box Makeup Studios returns to Portland for a two day workshop, June 9-10.
The class, titled Hairstyling for Makeup Artists, is designed to broaden working makeup artists’ hairstyling skills. It will allow them to offer potential employers a more complete package as they improve their own hair skills and gain a better understanding of working with other hairstylists on productions. March 30 was the first night of taping for “Wheel of Fortune” in Portland. KATU did a feature on the show on their 11:00 news. Here’s the link to the feature.
After seeing the video I am somewhat surprised to see the size of the production. Now I know why only two venues in Portland could hold the show. Don’t forget that the shows will air in May! Continue reading... “KATU Piece on the “Wheel Of Fortune” Production”
The process that delivers the furniture into our homes is often as grim as the process that delivers the food onto our plates. Aerial vistas of butchered landscapes look like ecological crime scenes, the brown swathes of mowed hillsides replacing the chalk outlines. The murder weapons drip with water instead of blood, freshly bathed for the next sanctioned slaughter. The morbid din of strained cedars slit at their mammoth bases, tipping over, their broad tops exploding on impact could just as easily have been confused with an animal’s death throes. We have already blogged about the Wheel of Fortune shooting a week’s worth of shows this week end and early next in Portland for their up-coming “green week” but I also wanted to take the opportunity to give a shout out to Sony Pictures Entertainment and their sustainability efforts.
Like other studios, Sony Pictures has in place it’s best practices and green policies; such as their “Road to Zero” (zero waste) and “A Greener World” vision, on set, in studio offices, stages and across all corporate operations. Project Youth Doc Instructor Job Description

About two years ago I was contacted by Steve Denari from the local ABC afilliate KATU about the possibility of landing “Wheel of Fortune”. We jumped at the chance to help with the effort and along with the help of Mayor Sam Adams’ team, it’s now a reality. Actually the producers of “Wheel” came up here nearly a year ago to shoot all the on location bumpers for the 20 episodes and now they are about to set up shop at the Oregon Convention center.
