‘Flipped’ and charmed

As he proved so winningly in “Stand by Me,” Rob Reiner is a filmmaker who has a way of telling stories about kids, suffusing them with ambivalence and insecurity about their still-evolving selves that feels both heartfelt and authentic.
I was reading this post from Deadline Hollywood today that predicts that the U.S. box office receipts will only account for 30% of the total worldwide box office receipts by 2014. That’s an amazing number. Why? Because it will most likely change the way films are developed. If you’ve already noticed that there are more and more films out there that require less dialogue (think all of the comic book films and “Transformers”) it’s probably because the studios are looking to appeal to the world wide market more than before. Oregon’s film industry got quite the write-up yesterday in the Hollywood Reporter! The producers of TNT’s Leveragehad wonderful things to say about shooting in Oregon, including this quote about Oregon’s talent from Co-Creator Jon Rogers:
“When we got up there we were expecting to fly in three or four cast members an episode, but we average about one or two,” co-creator/executive producer John Rogers says. “Some of the (local) actors have been so good, we’ve made them recurring characters on the show.”

Yogi Bearshot and completed filming on this live action 3D animated film project in New Zealand earlier this year but production needed some further shots for the opening scenes. After scouting Oregon and a few other states, Silver Falls State Park was deemed dramatic and on a grand enough scale to easily portray Jellystone Park. Directed by Gil Luna, Produced by Gil Luna, Jonathan Stark, Golightly Films, Timothy Schneider. “Population 2” is a new and exciting independent film shot at historic places in Oregon. The production just finished principal photography at three of Oregon’s most historic locations; The Gordon House (designed and built by Frank Lloyd Wright), The Shanghai Tunnels and the soon to be torn down Fairview Hospital in Salem.
We don’t usually post articles or information relating to the film industry outside of Oregon, but I thought this article was thought provoking. The Wrap is a pretty decent website covering the happenings within the industry and unlike Variety – the site is free! Don’t be fooled by the negative connotations behind the “failings of the film industry”. A lot of what Ted Hope has to say in the article is thought provoking and relevant to all you filmmakers out there in Oregon.
