Outdoor Movies in Oregon State Parks Returns!


The Hollywood Theatre and Oregon State Parks join forces once again for Outdoor Movies in Oregon State Parks! Pack a picnic and bring your friends to a summer season of vintage blockbusters, paranormal thrillers, and cult favorites, screening under the stars at some of Oregon’s most beautiful parks.

Outdoor Movies in Oregon State Parks are free to attend and no ticket is required. Screenings begin at dusk. Free day-use parking after 7 p.m.

Outdoor Adventure Film Grant ’23 – Awarded To Two Grantees

This year’s Outdoor Adventure Film Grant (OAFG’23) called for personal stories from and about the BIPOC community and Oregon’s outdoors. This year’s theme was specifically “The Nature Gap” – the uneven and inequitable distribution of wild, outdoor space based on race or socioeconomic status.

The OAFG’23 aims to help support and amplify stories and storytellers (both in front of and behind the camera) by utilizing Oregon’s outdoor spaces as a backdrop. Experienced BIPOC filmmakers and their on-camera subjects were invited to apply with a short film pitch that would inform, inspire, capture, and/or reveal a personal journey involving an outdoor pursuit that is set against the backdrop of Oregon’s majestic landscape.

Portland’s Kurt Rosenberg Brings “The Moon Followed Me to Falmouth” To Oregon Short Film Festival

The Moon Followed Me to Falmouth” will have its  US in-person premiere on Feb. 26th at the Oregon Short Film Festival at the Clinton Street Theater.

The musical short film was Executive Produced by Portland-based composer and filmmaker Kurt Rosenberg, based on his song of the same name. It was brought to life with stunning animation by Joël Gibbs of ARMADA studio.

Call for applications: NWDoc college doc program now open

Calling all Oregon student filmmakers! We welcome filmmakers from colleges across Oregon to apply for the 2023 NW Documentary shorts program in collaboration with Portland State University’s InventOR program.

What is the InventOR documentary program?

Through the InventOR documentary program, students will create short films about an InventOR team at their school or surrounding area. The Film tells the story of, Vin Shambry, “a Black 12-year-old boy in Portland, Oregon. Homeless, Vin sleeps under a tree in the park with his mother and baby sister, by day palling around with his school-yard friend, the daughter of a famous shoe designer. Outdoor Movies in Oregon State Parks is Back

Since 2016, the Hollywood Theatre has partnered with the Oregon State Parks Department and Oregon Film to produce a series of outdoor screenings. This year, we’re celebrating 100 years of Oregon State Parks with four special screenings honoring the past, present, and future. We hope you’ll join us in celebrating the 100th anniversary of Oregon State Parks! Follow the fun online with #oregonstateparks100.

This year’s line up includes: Jurassic Park, Mars Attacks!, Back to the Future Part II and Encanto.

Oregon Doc Camp Returns May 11-13

Documentary filmmakers so often find themselves working in isolation, away from larger centers of filmmaking — Oregon Documentary Camp seeks to create an environment for learning, connecting, and support for filmmakers wherever they are. Doc Camp includes workshops, panel discussions, film screenings, filmmaker Q&As, and the chance to share stories with other filmmakers.

Oregon Film Welcomes Dallas Brown To The Team

Following on from Bob Schmaling’s retirement this month, Oregon Film is pleased to welcome a new member of our team, Dallas Brown, Project Manager. After an extensive search done in partnership with Workplace Change where we met so many wonderful and talented people, Dallas was confirmed as our new Project Manager last week and we’re excited to have her talent and energy added to our work.

Southern Oregon’s theDove TV Named NRB Station of the Year

theDove TV has been honored to be selected by the National Religious Broadcasters to be TV Station of The Year for 2022.

NRB has announced the recipients of the 2022 NRB Media & Special Service Awards, which recognize the most outstanding ministries, organizations, and programs/producers in the world’s largest association of Christian communicators.

“It’s our honor to recognize these NRB members for excellence and effectiveness in Christian media and sharing the Gospel,” NRB CEO Troy A. Miller said. “We look forward to presenting these awards in March at NRB 2022.”
