Picture This Production Services & Stage hosted a 3D Workshop last month to introduce our community to multiple 3D Camera solutions including the Panasonic AG-3DA1 Camcorder, the first professional 3D dual lens HD video camera in the world, as well as 3D projection and 3D post production solutions.

The workshop kicked off with an introduction to 3D basic terminology and fundamental principles. We were guided through how physical science combined with aesthetic choices and art direction can produce successful and compelling 3D video imagery. Celebrate Local Talent: 37th NW Film & Video Festival

Like your cinema raw, fresh and homegrown? Kicking off this weekend is the 37th Northwest Film & Video Festival, which will deliver if you answered yes to that last sentence. The annual celebration will be just that. A celebration. Of new work by the premier media artists working in Oregon, Washington, British Columbia, Montana, and Idaho, showcasing 39 new films, 12 of which were singled out for special recognition by Gill Dennis, this year’s festival judge and Master-Filmmaker-in-Residence at the American Film Institute (also known for his screenplays for the dark, 40-plus-years-later sequel “Return to Oz” and the Johnny Cash biopic “Walk the Line,” among others). “Making Movies” Exhibit Finds Permanent Home

OMPA member Frank DiMarco has donated his well-traveled “Making Movies” exhibit to Film Action Oregon. http://www.filmactionoregon.org/ The collection of framed black and white images depict recent filmmaking in Oregon, with emphasis on the individual crafts that go into making a production. Film Action Oregon Artistic Director Richard Beer says, “We are honored that Frank decided to donate this lovely collection to Film Action Oregon. It is a wonderful testament to the talent that lives and works in Oregon.” “Making Movies” has been exhibited in Portland’s City Hall, The Art Institute of Portland, Portland Community Media and several restaurants in Portland. ‘Evidence of the Sasquatch,’ to Screen October 27th, 2010

Four filmmakers embarked on a doomed location scout in the forests of the Pacific Northwest. What started as a preliminary scout at the base of the cascades, ended in a bloodbath in the unforgiving wilderness. ‘Evidence of the Sasquatch’ is the film shot during this scouting by the filmmakers. This footage was found and the film was put together chronologically to show what these pour souls experienced in the days leading up to their final moments. Spielberg to Direct Film Based on Portland Author’s Novel

Oregon has always been fertile ground for talented writers and many have seen success on the big screen as well.  We have Ken Kesey to thank for “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” and “Sometimes a Great Notion”.  OSU alum Mike Rich (“Finding Forrester”, “Secretariat”) has written the screenplays to several successful films recently.    Today there are perhaps more writers than ever who have made Oregon their home and more and more are finding success in the film industry as well. SOFaT Filmmaker Series presents "Star Trek IV: The Journey Home"

Southern Oregon Film and Television is proud to present its upcoming SOFaT Filmmaker Series special screening of “Star Trek IV: The Journey Home”, projected in 35mm at the Varsity Theatre in downtown Ashland. Immediately following the film, there will be a live discussion and Q&A with the film’s writer and producer Harve Bennett, veteran of 4 Star Trek films from The Wrath of Khan to The Final Frontier as well as other films and notable TV shows.

Date: Saturday, October 23rd

Time: 6:30pm

Location: Varsity Theatre, downtown Ashland
