Very exciting news from Japan! They’ll be shooting LIVE in Baker City for their big  New Years Eve Show.   It’s sort of like our Dick Clark’s rockin’ New Years Eve,where they flip to different venues around the country-only the Japan version is flipping to different interesting venues around the world. Yep. That’s right, including us in Oregon. We think this is the first time Japan TV has ever broadcast live from Oregon for any reason. Yesterday in the New York Times Arts Section Adam Kepler wrote a piece about the new “Tron: Legacy” Motion comic that is out in conjunction with the feature release.  I bet you didn’t know that this was produced by an up and coming company here in Oregon.  Double Barrel Motion Labs is a growing company that has a base here in Portland and recently has shown interest in having even more of a footprint in Oregon.  Chief Executive Jeff Kreilitz called our office earlier in the year as his company started to line up a slew of new projects.  Continue reading... “Part of the Tron franchise produced in Oregon”

With our Annual Meeting a little over a week away, things are coming together and I know it’s going to be a great night!  As for the annual meeting here is the date and time:

December 17 @ 7:00

There will be a statewide teleconference so if you live in or nearby Ashland, Bend, Eugene, or Portland, you can attend.  It’s open to the public.

The Oregon Media Production Association (OMPA) announces its annual winter holiday party for commercial, film and television industry professionals on Friday, December 17th, 2010 from 8 pm to 11 pm at Portland City Hall. Fans of the NBC comedy Community have been looking forward to tonight’s Holiday episode, in which the show’s cast is transformed into holiday-special-style stop motion characters.  Where did the producers of Community look when they were searching for someone to create these Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer-like stop motion characters?

According to the Oregonian’s Kirsti Turnquist, the producers turned their eyes north to Portland, where they found animation specialist Teresa Drilling.  Drilling, who won an Emmy in 2008 for her work on Creature Comforts, worked “around the clock” for two months on the NBC comedy… and she also took four Art Institute of Portland students along for the ride! I saw a tweet from W+K today and immediately got immersed with Ian Tait’s presentation on this website.  He was speaking recently in London at the Creativity and Technology conference.  I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that every creative professional in Oregon check this out.  Ian joined W+K a year or so ago after success in the digital media industry in London.  I think he’s a real visionary and someone I hope will be a great asset for our local community.

A few months back I was contacted by the PR executives at TNT regarding a profile that Costco was looking to do on “Leverage”.  I was curious why Costco of all companies was interested in talking about Oregon Film and Video but when I found out that their Costco Connections gets sent out to over 8,000,000 people nationwide, I realized it didn’t really matter why they were interested, it was great exposure for our state and this industry.

HDFEST PortlandPast festival events have taken place in Sydney, New York, Los Angeles, Seoul, Chicago, London… and now PORTLAND!  HDFEST Portland is taking place December 6th-9th at the Living Room Theaters. Tickets are $9 and are available at the festival box office and through the web.

Details, trailers and schedule of features, shorts, music video, animations and experimental films screenings are now up. Oregon Film Annual MeetingMark your calendars… the Oregon Film Annual Meeting will be held Friday,  December 17th at 7:00PM.   This year’s meeting will once again be a state-wide teleconference event thanks to the support of our friends in Bend, Eugene, and Ashland.  The Portland location for the meeting will be Portland State University’s Lincoln Hall.
