The Winding Stream – Last Big Push!

The Winding Stream, an epic documentary film about the dynasty at the heart of American roots music is nearing completion, but needs finishing funds to get there. The film tells the story of the musical Carter and Cash Family and features interviews and performances by many Americana artists, including Johnny Cash, Rosanne Cash, George Jones, Sheryl Crow, Kris Kristofferson, John Prine, the Carolina Chocolate Drops and others.

To get to the finish line, Grammy-nominated independent filmmaker and musician Beth Harrington and her team are in the midst of a 60-day effort to raise the needed funds through the online crowdfunding site, Kickstarter. Continue reading... “The Winding Stream – Last Big Push!”

Wheel of Fortune – Going Green Week From Portland

This year marks the fifth season that Wheel of Fortune has featured a “Going Green” theme week. In past seasons, Pat and Vanna have offered viewers tips for going green and have shared updates about what Sony Pictures is doing to keep the studio lot environmentally-friendly.  As well as the kick off Going Green Week, the show is also featuring, Portland Week, College Week and the Great Outdoors.  See the schedule for air dates on KATU below:

At Sony Pictures “A Greener World” even The Wheel Is Green…..

We have already blogged about the Wheel of Fortune shooting a week’s worth of shows this week end and early next in Portland for their up-coming “green week” but I also wanted to take the opportunity to give a shout out to Sony Pictures Entertainment and their sustainability efforts.

Population: 2 featured at Houston World Festival

Portland film Population: 2, directed by Gil Luna, has been receiving a multitude of awards and recognitions since it finished production in December of 2011. Top among these has been the reception of an Award of Merit by The Indie Fest and an Award of Excellence from the Accolade Competition.

New Poster for Cell Count from Artist Tom Hodge.

PORTLAND, Oregon (March 09, 2012)  the announcement just earlier this week that “Cell Count” was chosen as the Closing Night Film and to also have it’s World Premiere at this years Fantaspoa Film Festival in Brazil we thought it would be a great time to show our new poster from the amazing Tom Hodge at The Dude Designs.

First Tidbits of “ParaNorman” Marketing Start to Roll Out

It looks like Halloween is the season for LAIKA to kick off their marketing campaign for “ParaNorman”.  We found this blog post with the first poster artwork.  And yesterday they set up the “ParaNorman” twitter account.  We’ve also heard rumors that a trailer of “ParaNorman” might be showing in front of some films this weekend but we haven’t been able to confirm.  The film doesn’t debut until August of next year but it’s great to see that LAIKA is already out there drumming up an audience for this film. LAIKA Acquires Rights to Develop Colin Meloy’s and Carson Ellis’ “Wildwood”

Today LAIKA announced it has optioned the film rights to the recently released novel “Wildwood”.  The novel was written by Decemberists front man Colin Meloy with the book illustrations done by Carson Ellis.  This announcement is more proof that Oregon’s creative industry is in full swing on many different levels and now those entities are collaborating.  The novel is the first of a planned three books set in an alternative version of Portland focusing on Forest Park.  LAIKA’s announcement appeared in this Variety article. An Italian Perspective on American Cinema

In Italy, the idea of American cinema is tightly connected with Hollywood and sensationalist movies where the hero is always handsome and honest and the audience knows that.  By the end of the movie, he will defeat all his enemies who, of course, are ugly and bad.
