MovieMaker magazine published their 2021 rankings for “Best Places to Live and Work as a Filmmaker” – both Portland and Ashland made the list for the Large City and Small City categories respectively.

Here’s what they said about Portland: ” famous for all things handcrafted and artisanal, and that extends to filmmaking. New streaming channel for shows about archaeology and cultural heritage!

We have exciting news about a new streaming channel that our Oregon nonprofit has created for shows about archaeology and cultural heritage.

We made this for people who may be tired of mindless reality TV shows, or watered-down content disguising itself as science, and who might be interested in binge-worthy shows, NOT from Netflix, that people can watch on their own smart TVs.

After having been streaming video online for more that 20 years, and having access to a network of hundreds of content producers and distributors around the world, ALI is well positioned to develop this new service. #EOFF2020 Sneak Peek & Program Release Virtual Event

EOFF2020 Sneak PeekEastern Oregon Film Festival will share the details of its eleventh annual program via a virtual ‘Sneak Peek’ event on the evening of Wednesday September 16. At 7:00pm, guests will be able to log in, buy a pass, and watch the #EOFF2020 ‘Trailer of Trailers’ promo video. Starting at 8:00pm, festival Director Christopher Jennings will be going live on the Eventive platform to outline more details about this year’s lineup, ticketing and membership options.

#EOFF2020 Official Selections Announcement & Update

Eastern Oregon Film Festival will be celebrating its eleventh year of independent film and music programming VIA La Grande, Oregon on October 22-24, 2020. This year EOFF joins a trend that we are all becoming more accustomed to – virtual cinema. Working with Eventive, an event management platform, EOFF now has the means to deliver this year’s program to our growing audience in their homes, but also the potential to reach far more audience members than ever before.

“The Last Blockbuster” – World Premiere Screening In Bend At Pop-Up Drive In!

“The Last Blockbuster” (2020) a feature-length documentary about “the rise and fall of Blockbuster video and how one small town store managed to outlast a corporate giant” is making its World Premiere screening at a BendFilm popup drive-in theatre (in Bend).  The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers, Zeke Kamm and Taylor Morden. The Couch Collective presents an event with screenwriter/director/producer Desiree Akhavan on Friday, July 24 at 11a.
In this two hour online workshop, Desiree Akhavan will share insights into her career development, and how to create successful queer content in an industry & country that is “terrified of female sexuality.” We will have an opportunity to analyze a scene from one of her films, as she takes us from concept, to writing, to the finished scene, discussing the writing as well as directing processes.

Oregon Film and the OregonMade Creative Foundation have teamed up with four of the best independent cinemas in Portland, The Northwest Film Center, The Hollywood Theatre, Clinton Street Theater and Cinema 21, to announce the fifth film of The Portland Circuit, a unique program designed to give locally produced, #OregonMade feature length films a short preview screening window in the city.

Spotlight On Scott Vanderpool – Welding Design & Fabrication Specialist

Scott Vanderpool, welding design and fabrication specialist for Portland Parks & Recreation and owner of Iron Stone Forge, LLC, has been designing and fabricating for business and pleasure in Portland for many years.  “I prefer to do artwork and technical/precision fabrications but I bring the artistic side whenever I can. The Portland Circuit Presents: “My Summer as a Goth” in November

The next installment in The Portland Circuit – a unique, local theatrical distribution program presented in conjunction with the Northwest Film Center, The Clinton Street Theatre, Cinema 21 and The Hollywood Theatre – is Tara Johnson-Medinger’s beautiful coming of age story: “My Summer as a Goth.”

My Summer as a Goth is a story about the sometimes painful-often entertaining-search for identity and love in adolescence. After the sudden death of her father, 16-year-old, Joey Javitts is sent to stay with her eccentric grandparents while her author mother promotes her latest novel.

The Portland Circuit Presents The World Premiere of “Canopy Stories”

“Canopy Stories” – 12 films, 12 stories, 12 iconic/majestic/enraptured Portland Trees.

Produced at NW Documentary and presented as part of The Portland Circuit, a unique partnership between the Northwest Film Center, Oregon Film, Cinema21, Clinton Street Theater and The Hollywood Theatre.

Every tree has a story. They tell the stories of families, of neighborhoods, of transformations long forgotten.  Tree stories are community stories.
