Food Foray, a locally produced docuseries blending stunning food visuals with intimate conversations about the immigrant experience, will hold a public screening at the Milagro Theatre on September 28, 2024.
Hosted by MetroEast Community Media, this dynamic event will feature the premiere of the first three 20-minute episodes, each spotlighting cuisines and stories from the Republic of Georgia, the Oaxaca region of Mexico, and Myanmar. Audiences will not only be the first to view this highly anticipated series but will also have the unique opportunity to enjoy authentic dishes inspired by the episodes, lovingly prepared by the immigrant foodies featured in the show. The screening will include Spanish subtitles to be accessible to Latinx communities. You can watch the trailer here.
Following the screening, attendees can participate in three enriching community discussions, diving deeper into the stories and the broader topics explored in the series. There is a suggested donation of $10, and every ticket holder will receive complimentary food and drinks. Tickets can be purchased at the following link: Food Foray Tickets.
“Imagine Anthony Bourdain’s Parts Unknown but set in local international markets with a host named Jess,” says director Ivana Horvat. “Through food, we learn about our immigrant neighbors and explore geopolitics, immigration, and culture.”
Food Foray will continue screening throughout Portland this winter and has been accepted into four film festivals, with more submissions pending as the team works toward securing a distribution partner to reach an even wider audience.
John Lugton, producer of Food Foray, notes, “We’re celebrating East Multnomah County’s cultural diversity and promoting immigrant-run small businesses, while addressing food deserts and encouraging exploration of local international markets.”
