#OregonMade “Nora” to Screen at Cinequest

The #OregonMade feature film “Nora” premieres at Cinequest on March 15th and 18th.

Having given up on her career, Nora returns to her hometown to focus on her precocious six year old, a new house, a new school year, and the place she deliberately left behind. Her dreams and ambitions, however, have different plans.

First time feature filmmaker Anna Campbell brings a joyful, unflinching look at modern motherhood clashing with the artist notion of pursuing your passion. This uniquely structured film with a completely original soundtrack uses the emotional bombshell that music provides to create a music movie for the MTV generation.

McMinnville Short Film Fest Announces Winner of Indigenous Filmmaker Grant

After a successful weekend for the festival, MSFF announced the winners of the first ever PNW Indigenous Filmmaker Grant this weekend. The Directing team of Olivia Camfield & Woodrow Hunt won the $10,000 grant offered in collaboration with Oregon Film’s Creative Opportunity Program. The grant will help the talented pair to create a piece that will premiere at next year’s MSFF.

Olivia Camfield is a multimedia movement artist of the Muscogee Nation. Their work finds connection to dance as body horror, tatooing as protection spells, and farming as Queer Indigenous Futurism.

Portland Panorama Launches Program Schedule

Portland Panorama Film Festival begins on Thursday, April 10 at Cinema 21 with International titles and films from across the United States. On Thursday, April 27 the Festival moves to Hollywood Theatre for the opening night of our Northwest Showcase, featuring films from Alaska, British Columbia, Idaho, Montana, The Northwest Territories, Oregon, and Washington State.

From panels and live music performances to VR experiences and parties, there’s something for everyone to enjoy!

KOIN Talks to Jacy Mairs about SXSW & “Trash Baby”

“Trash Baby” marks a few firsts. It’s the directorial debut of an Oregon filmmaker and it’s the acting debut for a Portland high schooler.

Now, the film is set for its world premiere at the SXSW festival in Austin, Texas.

“’Trash Baby’ is very loosely inspired by my own childhood, and it has a lot of reoccurring themes that I think happened for everyone at that age around forcefully wanting to be older than you are, and then kind of the reality of what that actually looks like when you start embracing some of the adult themes that come into play,” director Jacy Mairs told KOIN 6 News.

Destination Film Guide recently published an article by our own Jane Ridley that talks about the economic power of Film Tourism and how Oregon Film, in conjunction with partners like SetJetters and local jurisdictions, is using its development of the Oregon Film Trail to highlight Oregon’s many historical sites for iconic movies like Stand By Me, Homeward Bound, One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Twilight and The Goonies to bring film tourists, or set jetters, to all parts of our state.

Cinema Unbound Awards Coming May 30, 2025

On Friday, May 30, 2025, PAM CUT // Center for an Untold Tomorrow will host the sixth annual Cinema Unbound Awards in Portland, Oregon. This West Coast cultural highlight celebrates visionary creators who redefine cinematic storytelling and push the boundaries of media arts.

The awards celebrate visionary, boundary-breaking artists who defy categorization. This year, the event features a culinary takeover by 2025 James Beard Award-winning Thai-fusion chef, Earl Ninsom, showcasing storytelling through culinary artistry.

Tag! Queer Shorts Festival 2025

The 2025 edition of Tag! Queer Shorts Festival hits the screen at the Hollywood Theatre on April 5-6, 2025. This year’s theme is “Create, Gather, Resist,” which is a direct call for LGBTQIA+ filmmakers and allies to respond to the dire political climate by engaging in visual storytelling that counters the dehumanizing narratives, to join together in celebration and solidarity, and to organize against the transphobia, homophobia, ableism, racism, and sexism that characterize this administration.

This year’s festival features 42 local and international short films organized into four thematic blocks.
