NW Film Center Dialogue Writing Class Starts July 1

DIALOGUE WRITING
5 SESSIONS, WEDNESDAYS, JULY 1-29, 6:30-9:30PM, $345
Taught by award-winning writer & director STEVE DOUGHTON

The Northwest Film Center has a Dialogue Writing class that starts Wednesday July 1. Taught by local award-winning writer and director Steve Doughton (Buoy, 2012) the class includes writing exercises meant to unlock your artist’s toolbox, deconstructing scenes from films (Cassavetes and Mamet!), and a session with actors in-class. Over five class sessions you’ll work with Steve to put your ideas into practice while gaining a formal understanding of screenplay structure and dialogue styles.

Oregon Story Board’s 2015 Accelerator Class Is Announced


 

Oregon Story Board announced today the the eight new companies who will be part of the second accelerator class, and the first occupants of their new space in Portland’s Old Town (Old Town Lofts at 411 NW Flanders.)

These companies represent the mix of film, video, animation, visual effects, digital media, and gaming industries that make up Oregon’s digital storytelling ecosystem. The accelerator program will start June 29 and run through the fall, with a Demo Day in late October.

Next VFX/PDX Meeting – LAIKA and SideFX Houdini! June 22

The role of “FX Artist” working on a film is a fun one indeed.  FX Artists are tasked with creating dynamics and particle animations that create flashy effects like explosions, psunami level tidal waves, smoke, buildings crumbling, and other such epic imagery that make summer blockbusters all the more fun.

We’ll have 3 such individuals presenting at the next VFX/PDX meeting, which will heavily feature their weapon of choice:  Side Effects Houdini.  Portland, it’s time for a night we’re calling FIRE & ICE!

Senator Ron Wyden prepared a statement for the Congressional Record to mark the 30th anniversary of “The Goonies”, shot in Astoria, Oregon. Sen. Wyden noted the growth of the Oregon film industry and the “good-paying jobs and tourism that in turn support local businesses and economic development across the State”. OPB TV Awarded Seven NW Regional Emmys

OPB was awarded seven Emmy awards from the NW Chapter (covering Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington) of National Academy of the Televisions  Arts and Sciences over the week end.   Oregon Art Beat, Oregon Field Guide, Oregon Experience, and an OPB documentary co-production. Astoria Celebrates “The Goonies” 30th Anniversary

The highly-anticipated 30th anniversary of “The Goonies“, took place over 4 days in Astoria last month.  The celebration kicked off with the Geocache “One Eyed Willie Treasure” hunt at the Astoria Armory, with the official “Goonies Day” being marked as June 7th.  Several screenings of the movie took place over the four days with the collective events attracted around 15,000 fans from all over the world, celebrating the “Farewell to Warren Field” (location featured in the film’s opening), original cast appearances and the largest collective of the  Truffle Shuffle the world has ever seen!

Technology Association of Oregon Opens Satellite Office in Eugene

TECHnology Association of OregonThe Technology Association of Oregon, an organization that advocates for the state’s tech companies, and whose vision is to “create a world-class and inclusive innovation economy in Oregon and SW Washington by helping the region’s technology and tech-enabled industries to grow through programs and initiatives that focus on industry promotion, advocacy, professional networks, and talent development” has opened a satellite office in Eugene.

Eugene has been a growing center for high-tech firms, the video game industry being one of them, and TAO’s presence will help focus and promote a young workforce looking to get into tech, as well as serving as a voice for the industry, and a networking hub, amongst other things.
