Submissions Now Open For 3rd Consecutive PLAYA Screenwriter’s Residency Award!

The OregonMade Creative Foundation, in conjunction with Oregon Film, Northwest Film Center and PLAYA, announce the third consecutive year of a unique residency opportunity for screenwriters and filmmakers.

This program calls for proposals from screenwriters, filmmakers and related creators to work on a script/story/pitch/narrative project during an up to 2-week residency at PLAYA in Summer Lake, Oregon.

The OregonMade Screenwriter’s Residency Award is open to Oregon Resident filmmakers, screenwriters and other creative teams (no more than 3) to develop and write a narrative project with a “historic” theme that is set here in the Northwest.

My name is Janet Weiss and I live a double life. A Portland, OR resident since 1989, I moved here from the Bay Area to play music and to take advantage of cheap rent and basements in which to practice. I’ve been the drummer in Sleater-Kinney and Quasi ever since (amongst others). Ten years ago I got myself an amazing day job… Location Manager! I cut my teeth five seasons on the fast paced whirlwind of a show, “Portlandia” and am currently enjoying the rewarding challenges working on feature films.

Portland’s Funniest Video is a monthly showcase of local and regional comedic films and sketches at Curious Comedy Theater. The showcase has been running for seven months and has already done a best of Vol 1.

Ashland Independent Film Festival Announces 2019 Juried & Audience Award Winners

ASHLAND, Ore. – The Ashland Independent Film Festival (AIFF) wrapped its 18^th annual edition, which ran April 11-15, 2019, screening over 150 films to audiences of over 17,000. On April 14 at its Awards Night celebration, the juried and audience award-winning films were announced.

The James Blue Award was presented to directors Alyssa Fedele and Zachary Fink of The Rescue List.

We have been too often reminded of the the dangers of the work we do. Tragedy struck this recently with a Rigger at Coachella Festival falling to his death while setting up for the concert: https://variety.com/2019/music/news/coachella-worker-dies-after-fall-festival-1203182450/. Locally we had a too close call in Portland in April with a car stunt gone wrong with a camera operator and sound mixer in the back seat on the filming of the non-union, Discovery documentary “The Wonderland Murders.”

#OregonMade “Shrill” Renewed For 2nd Season

Hulu has renewed ‘Shrill,’ starring Aidy Bryant, for Season 2 for eight episodes. Based on the book by Lindy West.

The series launched this March to positive reviews (according to the Hollywood Reporter, the series currently has a 91 percent rating among critics and 80 percent score among viewers on RottenTomatoes.com.) “Shrill” shot in and around Portland last year.
