I was just scanning the twitter universe and picked up on a tweet from Aimee Mann (thanks PA Wilhelm!). Apparently she just left Portland after doing a bit on the show “Portlandia”. Here’s her tweet –
I had a great time shooting my thing in “Portlandia.” Fred and Carrie are so hilarious together. It was very fun! But weirdly exhausting!

As is the case when you do a little digging, it’s amazing how many talented writers, directors, actors, and other creative professionals living in Oregon slightly under the radar. A few months ago I met such a talented individual – Bill Oakley. Bill was the show runner for the sixth and seventh seasons of “The Simpsons” as well as many other credits and now he calls Portland his home.
‘SNL’ vet Armisen co-created, co-stars in sketch series
IFC has given a greenlight to a Lorne Michaels-exec produced sketch comedy half-hour, “Portlandia,” co-created by and starring Fred Armisen of “Saturday Night Live.”
The series, which begins production of six episodes in Portland, Ore., this month, is scheduled to premiere on IFC in early 2011. The project will kick off on Friday August 13th, with a Night Life social event at White House Coffee (1702 Fourth Street). Teams will be identified, organized, and specific criteria for their film will be given. The past few days they have been recording personalized messages and posting the videos on YouTube and it’s become quite the phenomenon! Read Write Web got the low down on what W+K is up to. According to the Oregon Arts Commission over 60,000 jobs in Oregon are directly related to the creative economy. That may not sound like a lot of jobs but when you figure that Oregon has about 1/10 of the population of California, it’s a large section of the total workforce in Oregon.
