Northwest Film Center Announces PIFF 2.0

The Northwest Film Center announces PIFF 2.0, reimagining the final days of the 43rd Portland International Film Festival.

From October 1 to 3, 2020, PIFF 2.0 will present 10 films, talks, and happy hours from Northwest and International filmmakers, offered in virtual screening and events as well as new additions to the Film Center’s popular Cinema Unbound Drive-In series.

The series includes #OregonMade feature films “The Dark Divide” and “Young Hearts.”

Deep Sky Animates a Five-Part Series for The Smashing Pumpkins

Episodes 1 & 2 of The Smashing Pumpkins’ new five-part animated series “In Ashes,” animated by Portland’s Deep Sky, are now available.

Deep Sky collaborated directly with Billy Corgan over the last 6 months to translate his narrative vision into cinematic form, set to the soundtrack of the band’s newest song releases.

“PHOENIX, OREGON” Movie’s Namesake, the City of Phoenix, OR, Wiped Out by Wildfire but the Producers Seek Funds to Rebuild

In the evening of Tuesday, September 8, 2020, a fast moving wildfire swept through the town of Phoenix, Oregon burning hundreds of homes and businesses, leaving almost the entire town flattened.

This is an especially monumental blow to the filmmaking team behind the 2020 theatrically-released comedy “Phoenix, Oregon”. Not only is the film named after the town, but several crew and family members of the producers lost homes.

SmithRock.com is an owner-run resource for people wanting to visit Smith Rock State Park, and pitches itself as, “an independent online guide for adventurers” that want to explore the park. For productions thinking of shooting at the Smith Rock State Park, you must first contact the park manager (at 541-548-7501) for all permit requests and questions about filming in the 650 acres that make up the park.
Marcia and Mike Volk are the husband and wife team behind SmithRock.com.  They started their business 20 years ago offering resources for rock climbers and have since expanded the site to the “250+ pages it is today, with the goal to “edutain”  their audience of 69,000 page views per month to give them a greater appreciation for this special place to keep it intact for generations to come.

#OregonMade “The Waterman” To Premiere At TIFF

#OregonMade, “The Waterman” is Golden Globe-nominated actor, David Oyelowo’s feature directorial debut and will feature in the  Toronto International Film Festival lineup for 2020 as one of the festival’s special events.

 

“The Water Man” is one of two specially selected family films for the festival and stars Oyelowo alongside Rosario Dawson, Maria Bello and Alfred Molina and is a mystical adventure that recalls family-friendly movies of the 1980s.

A New Sign For The Oregon Film Trail At Silver Falls State Park!

The Oregon Film Trail sign was installed last week at Silver Falls State Park, and it celebrates the starring role the park played as a location in Twilight among other films.   This is the 15th sign on the Oregon Film Trail, it was installed at the Howard Creek Trailhead parking lot near the campground within the Park.

Northwest Film Center Brings Venice VR Expanded 2020 to Portland

The Northwest Film Center and Portland Art Museum have been announced as the exclusive U.S. partner for the Virtual Reality (VR) arm of the Venice Biennale through its Venice VR Expanded 2020 programming. This year, since many audiences will not be able to come to Venice for COVID-19 related reasons, Venice will come to them.

ShadowMachine’s #OregonMade Animated Musical “Pinocchio” Announces Cast

Shadow Machine announced this week its cast choices for the animated musical feature, “Pinocchio“.  Principal photography on “Pinocchio” began last autumn at ShadowMachine’s Portland studio and production has continued uninterrupted during the pandemic.
Oscar-winner Guillermo del Toro’s stop-motion animated musical movie “Pinocchio” for Netflix has announced its cast – newcomer Gregory Mann is in the title role, Ewan McGregor as Cricket, and David Bradley (Harry Potter franchise, Game of Thrones) as Geppetto

#OregonMade Netflix Film, “All Together Now” To Air August 28th

#OregonMade Netflix film, “All Together Now” released its official trailer for this YA drama that is set to air on August 28th.  Starring, Auli’i Cravalho (“Moana”), Rhenzy Feliz, Carol Burnett, and Fred Armisen, this project filmed all over Portland and of course hired an Oregon crew.  “All Together Now” is based upon the novel, “Sorta Like a Rockstar,” by Matthew Quick, (who also wrote the novel, “Silver Linings Playbook” and who also took on the initial adaptation of “All Together Now”) the screenplay was directed and co-written by Brett Haley (“Hearts Beat Loud”, “I’ll See You In My Dreams”) and Marc Basch co-wrote.
