#OregonMade Film Series: “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” on June 10

The next installment of the #OregonMade Film Series celebrating 50 years of Oregon Film, is a tribute to Miloš Forman (1932-2018), with a 35mm print of his 1975 masterpiece “One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest.”



In addition, this screening is a benefit for the Oregon State Hospital Museum of Mental Health, the Salem based institution where the film was shot.

Based on the novel by Ken Kesey and adapted by Bo Goldman and Lawrence Hauben, Producers Michael Douglas and Saul Zaentz put together a cast for the Salem shot film that was unknown at the time (even, to some extent, Jack Nicholson) but all went on to have incredible careers – Michael Berryman, Scatman Crothers, Danny DeVito, Christopher Lloyd, Vincent Schiavelli, Brad Dourif and Oscar winner (alongside Nicholson, Forman, Goldman, Hauben, Douglas and Zaentz) Louise Fletcher, to name just a few. “My Own Private Idaho” 35mm Screening Big Success – #OregonMade50

 

As part of its 50th Anniversary, Oregon Film has teamed up with the Hollywood Theatre to bring several films shot in Oregon back to the big screen – earlier this week was this month’s offering, “My Own Private Idaho.” Gus Van Sant’s Shakespearean tale with River Phoenix and Keanu Reeves follows two friends, Mike and Scott, as they embark on a journey of personal discovery that is mostly set in Portland but takes them to Mike’s hometown in Idaho and finally to Italy in search of Mike’s mother. #OregonMade 50th Anniversary Film Series – “My Own Private Idaho” April 2nd

To put it simply, there have been a lot of great movies made in Oregon. Going back more than 100 years to “The Fisherman’s Bride” in Astoria, through to Buster Keaton’s, “The General”  shot in Cottage Grove; then moving into the westerns that took advantage of the diverse locations of Central Oregon and Mt.
