Jon Garcia, Sunset High school’s language arts teacher, created a video designed to combat cyber-bullying, and has got the attention of the $10,000 Paste Cloud Video Contest.  Paste Cloud were, “giving away $10,000 to celebrate the launch of our new video platform for musicians, short filmmakers, comedians and more.”  Read more here. Laika Wins Technical Oscar’s Award For 3-D Printing Technology

Laika uses stop-motion animation techniques to bring their characters to life, but with hundreds of puppets needed for the process it is painstaking to create the many expressions and movement needed to make the action fluid.  The studio overcame this by becoming early adopter’s of the 3-D printing process that enabled them to create the many minuscule changing facial features without losing any of the artistry that goes into each puppet. Indie Portland Game Developers Organize Cartoon Network Game Jam

The Portland Indie Game Squad (PIGSquad) and Rose City Game Consulting Run are organizing a 48 hour Game Jam (Feb 12-14th)  – “The Cartoon Network Game Jam“.  The event will feature the cable channel’s characters that indie game designers will use to create their game ideas.   Teams will have 48 hours in which to create a prototype, and that will then be judged by Cartoon Network staff. (Teams can sign up here.)  The winning team will be offered a chance to negotiate a development deal with the Cartoon Network, which will offer the chance to realize the winning prototype’s full potential with a mobile roll out. Tonight, OPB-TV will re-broadcast “Don’t Wait for the Quake,” an event hosted by Oregon Public Broadcasting and the University of Oregon’s School of Journalism and Communication (SOJC) on Nov. 17. The program will air at 9pm PT, and although tonight’s show won’t be live, A Fourth Act’s audience engagement tool Harvis will be.We invite you to join in.

Oregon Media Production Community Rolls Out Red Carpet, Honors Best Local Performances Of The Year

The annual 2015 Oregon Actors Awards took place at the Portland Center Stage, to a packed house over the week end.  The awards recognized outstanding members of Oregon’s film, video and multimedia industry.  Four awards were given to film, TV and commercial actors, and one for community service.

Portland-Based Film “Birds of Neptune” Has Acquired Distribution Through Brinkvision

 

BONposterplainSteven Richter’s feature film “Birds of Neptune” has been acquired by Brinkvision for US distribution.  The film is scheduled to be released on DVD and VOD in early 2016.

The award winning film “Birds of Neptune” was shot in Portland, Oregon with an all local cast and crew and all local vendors.  It premiered at Slamdance early this year and has since gone on to screen at festivals throughout the US  and was the opening night film at the Portland Film Festival. Google Trekker Brings It’s Camera Technology To The Oregon Wilderness

Google’s  Trekker Camera is slowly bringing it’s technology to the trail.  This summer volunteers from the Oregon Wild organization (formerly the Oregon Natural Resources Council or ONRC) offered to carry the Trekker and hike some of Oregon’s most beautiful trails in order to bring a “street view” to the public and is so doing, bringing attention to conservation lands in Oregon.  OPB covered the story and you can read more here.
