Lighthouses of Oregon: A History of Aiding Maritime Navigation Doc By Matt Cook

After half a year or so of hard work, I have completed a full documentary about Oregon’s lighthouses. This movie tells the story of each Oregon lighthouse. These lifesaving structures helped Oregon grow in the early days of the state. Today they stand as very photogenic monuments of our history.

I took on this project because of a love for both my home state and outdoor filmmaking. I find the outdoors to be an escape from everyday life, and I try to show that in videos. Continue reading... “Lighthouses of Oregon: A History of Aiding Maritime Navigation Doc By Matt Cook”

Oregon Adventurers Set Out To Prove WHO’S ON TOP? In New Doc

Who’s on Top? is a feature-length documentary that shines a spotlight on a diverse group of the LGBTQ+ community to challenge stereotypes about gender and sexuality in outdoor recreation.
Historically excluded and ostracized as not belonging to the adventurer community, the climbers tackle not only a mountain but assumptions about who they are and how they belong to the world of outdoor sports.

The film portrays a journey like no other, a never-before-told story about what makes LGBTQ+ folks both distinct and connected, facing physical, mental, and societal obstacles. Continue reading... “Oregon Adventurers Set Out To Prove WHO’S ON TOP? In New Doc”

When in Doubt – Documentary on our Divides

When in Doubt
A new documentary about the importance of difficult conversations and the benefits of doubt.

The Signal Productions is making a documentary with the aim of helping improve dialogue across ideological divides and strengthening relationships. We are working with one of the authors of How to Have Impossible Conversations, Peter Boghossian, who will be coaching our documentary subjects to improve their ability to communicate. The film will feature amazing people like Daryl Davis, self-described race reconciliator, who was able to get over 200 people to leave behind hateful organizations like the KKK just through dialogue and by befriending them. NW Documentary Announces a New Online Community Space

During these difficult times, one of the things that has affected NW Documentary the most is feeling disconnected from their community. They miss the drop-in visitors, the edit-lab regulars, the event hosts, the podcasters, the busy working filmmakers, the curious first-timers, and everyone else.

So! They’ve tried to create a place where everyone can all come together at least a bit like they used to.

This virtual space is designed to recreate as much of the function of our in-person community space as possible, including:

  • Virtual Rooms: an edit lab for chatting and co-working, meeting rooms, and screening space
  • Virtual Events: weekly co-working time, casual film screenings every Thursday, and more to come as the space evolves and grows!
