SOAR, a new documentary featuring local dancers Kiera Brinkley and Uriah Boyd and directed by local filmmaker Susan Hess Logeais, will premiere on Thursday, October 22 at 7:30 pm.  The screening will take place at the Hollywood Theatre (4122 NE Sandy Blvd, Portland), and will feature a Q&A with the director Susan Hess Logeais as well as co-producers Kiera Brinkley and Uriah Boyd. Tickets are available in advance at the Hollywood Theatre website or at the door for $10, $5 for Students (with ID). 1859 Magazine profiled four Oregon documentary directors and highlighted what drives their passion to bring their stories to the screen, and what they have to do make that happen.

The OPB Independent Film Festival is this August

The OPB Independent Film Festival airs weeknights at 10 p.m., starting August 10.

OPB is celebrating the power of independent films with the OPB Independent Film Festival all month long on OPB TV.

Each weeknight at 10 p.m. from August 10-24, enjoy a documentary film from the POV and Independent Lens libraries. The festival wraps up with the annual OPB series Oregon Lens from August 24-28, which showcases the diverse work of local filmmakers.

The “American Pickers” series will be filming in Oregon later this year.  Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz will be cruising the state looking for vintage memorabilia and antiques for this documentary series (History) to showcase their valuable “picks” from unlikely places.

Telluride Mountain Film is “an annual festival, a worldwide tour, a diverse community and a champion for change.”  Les Voyageurs Sans Trace’s story follows three French kayakers who descended the Colorado River in 1938 to explore the American West and filmed their feat in color film. The 16mm color film predates Hollywood’s first color movie, The Wizard of Oz, and is the first color adventure film. Following on from our successful screening of “Wild” at the Salem Cinema last December, we are pleased to be starting a new series of free screenings in Salem made by, or featuring, Oregon filmmakers and subjects which we are calling Oregon Film[Makers].
