Who We Are and What We Do (June 2025)

Every year around this time we take a moment to reflect on the work we do and why we do it.

First of all, the basics: Oregon Film (a/k/a The Oregon Film & Video Office) is a four person semi-independent state agency that is focused on fostering the economic development potential of the film and media industry in Oregon. Established by Gov. Tom McCall in 1968 to aid the permitting process for “Paint Your Wagon,” Oregon Film, as far as we know, is the oldest state film commission in the US. EOFF Filmmaker Field Trips Program with “Bad Day for Bigfoot”

Eastern Oregon Film Festival (EOFF) is thrilled to announce the first ‘Trippers’ of its new Filmmaker Field Trips program’, a unique initiative designed to support independent filmmakers by providing them with direct access to the stunning landscapes and vibrant communities of Eastern Oregon.

The inaugural Field Trip, taking place from June 23-30, 2025, will welcome director Zach Green and writer Devin O’Rourke, the creative duo behind the feature film project “Bad Day for Bigfoot.” The two filmmakers, who previously wowed audiences with their sci-fi buddy comedy “FOIL” at #EOFF2023, are returning to Eastern Oregon to scout locations, connect with the local community, and immerse themselves in the region’s unique atmosphere as they prepare to bring their latest project to life. McMinnville Short Film Fest Announces Winner of Indigenous Filmmaker Grant

After a successful weekend for the festival, MSFF announced the winners of the first ever PNW Indigenous Filmmaker Grant this weekend. The Directing team of Olivia Camfield & Woodrow Hunt won the $10,000 grant offered in collaboration with Oregon Film’s Creative Opportunity Program. The grant will help the talented pair to create a piece that will premiere at next year’s MSFF.

“What We Lost Along the Way” An #OregonMade Documentary

Travel Oregon recently highlighted a short doc that was funded as part of the Outdoor Adventure Film Grant awarded by both Travel Oregon and Oregon Film. The film, directed by Portlander Devin Boss, highlights friends’ Oregon Coast journey to experience nature and leave anxiety behind.

Devin Boss recalls watching the waves crash against the rocks at Thor’s Well on his recent Oregon Coast road trip with friends. “It’s probably like in the top five things I’ve ever witnessed in nature,” he says of the natural attraction in Yachats, just down the path from Cape Perpetua Visitors Center. EOFF Launches Development Field Trips for Filmmakers

Eastern Oregon Film Festival (EOFF) is thrilled to announce its Production Development Field Trip, launching in late spring and summer 2025! This unique opportunity offers selected filmmakers and creative teams a fully funded 4-7 day exploratory visit to La Grande, Oregon, to scout locations, connect with industry professionals, and assess the feasibility of bringing their next film to Union County.

BendFilm Announces Winner of BIPOC Woman Filmmaker Grant

Filmmaker Rosanna Peng Awarded Grant for Her narrative short film “Bowling Bao”.

BendFilm, Inc announced the winner of its annual $10,000 BIPOC Woman Filmmaker Grant. This annual program created by BendFilm awards a filmmaking grant to a woman of color to promote diversity and inclusion in the film industry. The 2024 winner is director Rosanna Peng for her project ‘Bowling Bao’: a short film that captures the internal struggles of identity, belonging, and self-expression, offering a raw, authentic look at how societal expectations—rooted in class, gender, and culture—can stifle one’s sense of self. Oregon PA Pathways Training at Outside the Frame

Are you looking to break into the film and media industry? Join Outside the Frame‘s upcoming PA Pathways training session. This one day, in-person training is intended to place underrepresented filmmakers into paid production assistant positions on professional commercial, motion picture and television sets. Applications are now open and must be submitted by January 27, 2025 to be considered.

Happy New Year everyone. As we often do, we’d like to give you some highlights from the past year as well as a small dose of “Looking Forward.”

Women in Film PDX Announces Vision Grant Winners

WIF-PDX is proud to announce the recipients of the 2024 Vision Grants for Narrative and Documentary projects.

This year Fuschia Lin and the filmmaking team Nisha Burton & Jessica Daugherty were each awarded $5,000 for their projects “Future Cosmos Flow” and the documentary “Over the Kitchen Table.”
