Open Signal’s Black Fellowship Lab – Accepting Applications Through December 20th

Open Signal‘s Black Film Fellowship is accepting applications until December 20th, 2019.  The fellowship allows six Portland-based Black filmmakers to immerse themselves in a creative environment that avoids the biases of extra-cultural critique, while fostering an environment of trust and experimentation. The Black Filmmaker Fellowship is a rare opportunity for social exploration and deep career development at Open Signal.

Open Signal Labs is an incubator for new stories at Open Signal, a media arts center based in Northeast Portland. Labs and its fellowship were created with a clear awareness of emerging opportunities for African-Americans in film and television, and the critical social and political importance of the Black perspective in all areas of storytelling.

#OregonMade Team Created Netflix’s “Fire In Paradise” Doc

Fire in Paradise“, the Netflix documentary chronicling the recent (2018) Camp Fire in northern California that killed 85 people, was produced by Gary Kout, based in Ashland, OR. The film was directed by Drea Cooper and Zackary Canapari, for whom Gary has produced many commercial and documentary projects including the award-winning feature doc “T-Rex” and the acclaimed Netflix doc series “Flintown“.

Both Kout and Cooper have ties to the town of Paradise and surrounding communities, and as the aftermath of the fire was making headlines, the trio teamed up with Netflix and began working on the doc.

Oscilloscope Acquires US Rights to (#OregonMade) “Clementine”

The feature was directed and written by, Lara Jean Gallagher,  and produced by Aimee Lynn Barneburg, Davis Priestley, and Karina Ripper.

It takes place in Oregon (Florence and Portland) – “reeling from a one-sided breakup, heartbroken Karen breaks into her ex’s lakehouse. There, she strikes up a complicated relationship with provocative younger woman Lana in this beautifully rendered psychological drama and sexual coming of age story.”  Starring, Otmara Marrero, Sydney Sweeney, Will Brittain, Sonya Walger. Women in Film Portland Announces Winner For “Vision Grant”

Lindsay Trapnell wins Women in Film Portland Vision Grant for documentary about Rose City Riveters, supporters club for the Portland Thorns women’s soccer team.

Portland, Oregon; November 20, 2019Women In Film Portland has announced Lindsay Trapnell as the winner of its $5,000 Vision Grant award for her documentary film in progress called “Riveted.” The film is about the Rose City Riveters, a supporters club for the Portland Thorns women’s soccer team. It is one of the largest and most avid groups of supporters in all of professional women’s sports.

The Oregon Dance Film Commission – Application Period Now Open!

The Oregon Dance Film Commission came from the desire to offer a platform for Oregon artists interested in working in the field of Dance Film. ODFC is for artists who have never made a professional dance film but are already established in the field of filmmaking or choreography. The goal of ODFC is for two artists who normally would not have come together to make a Dance Film, join forces, learn what is it to work together, and create a new and unique work.

With over 38,000 farms in Oregon, both large and small, growing more than 250 products from wheat and beef, to salmon and berries, there are many delicious reasons to make a stop somewhere on the road from the farm to the market. In fact, Oregon is the number one U.S. producer of blackberries, hazelnuts, peppermint, cranberries, rhubarb, grass seed, florist azaleas and Christmas trees.

All these products, and more, have seasons and stories that make the perennial journey from the farmer’s fields to farmer’s markets interesting, moving, and sometimes even epic and entertaining.

#OregonMade “Shrill” Season 2 To Premiere January 24th

Hulu announced their the second season of “Shrill” (based on Lindy West’s bestselling 2016 memoir, Shrill: Notes from a Loud Woman) will premiere January 24th, 2020 for 8 more episodes.  Aidy Bryant stars as Annie, “a fat young woman who wants to change her life — but not her body.”
