The Portland Women’s Film Festival (a.k.a. POW Fest) will be placing a local spotlight on the issue of Child Trafficking and abuse on September 9th , 6pm at the Hollywood Theatre, with a special screening of the documentary “Playground” by Director Libby Spears, executive produced by George Clooney and Steven Soderbergh. The screening will benefit Caldera and POW Fest Documentary Programming. The evening will begin with a reception, sponsored by New Belgium Brewing Company, a silent auction and special introduction by Senator Ron Wyden – cosponsor of an anti-trafficking bill in the Senate – and conclude with a special Question & Answer session with civic leaders and Spears immediately following the film. Oregon Public Broadcasting brings indie-theater directly into your home over five nights in August as the work of some of the Pacific Northwest’s most talented independent producers is showcased on OREGON LENS August 16-20 at 10pm.

According to the Oregon Arts Commission over 60,000 jobs in Oregon are directly related to the creative economy. That may not sound like a lot of jobs but when you figure that Oregon has about 1/10 of the population of California, it’s a large section of the total workforce in Oregon.
