2016 POWFest Call-For-Entries!

DSC_0012The Portland Oregon Women’s Film Festival (POWFest) is now accepting  entries for its ninth annual festival scheduled to take place March 3 – 6, 2016.  The regular deadline for entries is Friday, August 14, 2015.

 Deadlines & Fees

  •  Early Bird Deadline: Postmarked by June 19, 2015 ~ $25
     Regular Deadline: Postmarked by Friday August 14, 2015 ~ $35
     Late Deadline: Postmarked by Friday August 28, 2015 ~ $45
     Extended Deadline: Postmarked by September 11, 2015 ~ $55

Films must be directed or co-directed by women and can be of any length,  style, or genre.

Koerner Camera Awards Inaugural Film Scholarships To Two PSU Students

Koerner Camera“The Film Program and the College of the Arts at Portland State University are pleased to announce the Koerner Camera Film Scholarship, the inaugural film scholarship in the School of Theater + Film. This scholarship will provide access to high quality film education and pre-professional training for two undergraduate film students with a course of study emphasizing PSU_Logocinematography. Two $5,000 scholarships will be awarded each year for five years.

Michael Koerner is the founder of Koerner Camera Systems Inc., the largest motion picture camera rental house north of Los Angeles.

#EOFF Gets Off To Inspirational Start

#EOFF 2015 opened last night with “Planetary” – an inspirational and motivating visual documentary that played to a sold out audience at the Granada Cinema in La Grande. (“Planetary was originally released on Earth Day, April 22,  on Vimeo On Demand).

#EOFF showcases a variety of shorts, features, documentaries, music and even an on-line program that “through the mediums of independent film and music, aims to enrich and expand the cultural experience within our community.

Lance Bangs Presents at Everything Is Festival

Filmmaker, documentarian, and music video director Lance Bangs will take part in the Hollywood Theatre’s Everything Is Festival: Portland, hosting LANCE BANGS PRESENTS on Sunday, May 31 at 9:30pm.

Known for his documentaries DAVID CROSS: LET AMERICA LAUGH (2003) and THE WORK OF MICHEL GONDRY (2003), his work on the JACKASS television series and movies, and his music videos for Sonic Youth, The Shins, Green Day, Nirvana, and more, Lance Bangs has had his finger in so many pies it’s hard to keep track.

#MyBigDream – Inspirational Documentary – Screened At Whitsell

On Tuesday, April 28, Oregon Film, Portland Development Commission, Oregon Storyboard, Intel and NWFilm teamed up with Girls Inc. to show the new feature documentary BIG DREAM to over 100 young women at the Whitsell Auditorium.

Oregon Animator, Stefan Nadelman, Animates Sequence In Kurt Cobain Doc

Oregon animator, Stefan Nadelman, created the sequence above for the Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck documentary that premiered at Sundance this year.  Nadelman worked with Cobain’s own drawings to bring them to life.  The New York Times referenced this animated sequence “of (Cobain’s) adolescence, set to his own taped narration, is the best part of the film.”  You can see the whole documentary on HBO tonight.

#EOFF2015 Kicks Off May 7

The sixth annual Eastern Oregon Film Festival kicks off this Thursday, May 7, in La Grande, Oregon with the documentary feature PLANETARY at 7:00PM preceded by Danny Madden’s ALL YOUR FAVORITE SHOWS! A in-person Q&A with PLANETARY director Guy Reid will follow. The night will conclude with a celebration at The Art Center begginning around 9PM – TERMINAL GRAVITY will flow at the festival beer garden and good times will be had while witnessing performances by La Grande’s own HAM N’ CHEESE and our neighbors to the west – JAMES DEAN KINDLE AND THE EASTERN OREGON PLAYBOYS.

360 Labs Brings Cutting Edge VR Technology to Raise Public Awareness of Contentious Grand Canyon River Project

VR technology is so much more fun the second time around and with companies like YouTube (360), Google Business View and many new 360º apps to name a few, there are many interesting advancements to explore.  360º Labs, based out of Portland, Oregon, are bringing their own altruistic (and very Oregon) public-spirited take to their technology.  They are currently half way through a Kickstarter campaign to fund a 360º VR documentary “As It Is A 360º Video & Virtual Reality Experience Exploring How A Proposed Gondola Resort Will Impact the Grand Canyon from Rim to River.”

5th Annual NorthWest Animation Festival Starts May 4th
