Come celebrate the 40th anniversary of the quintessential Oregon (coast) movie set and shot in Astoria. It’s hard to say anything new about Richard Donner, Chris Columbus and Steven Spielberg’s classic would-be-treasure-hunters-fight-off-the-bad-guys-to-win-the-day story, but that’s why we love it. UPDATED: “The Goonies” Celebrates its 35th Anniversary with Statewide Tour

It’s been 35 years since The Goonies audiences first went in search of treasure with a lovable band of kids from Astoria into the caves beneath the northern Oregon coastline and Ecola State Park. To celebrate the 35th anniversary of the film, Oregon Film and Travel Oregon will offer public screenings of the movie in several cities around the state—from Salem Cinema to BendFilm and Eugene’s Broadway Metro to Baker City.

The Goonies 30th Anniversary Celebration – Wrap Up

“The Goonies” 30th Anniversary Celebration was held in Astoria, Oregon from June 4 to 7, 2015 – just a short two weeks ago as of this writing. We enjoyed a successful event overall, bringing a nice economic boost to our community to kick-off the summer season. This is our third anniversary celebration to host, starting in 2005 with the 20th. Attendees come from all across the US and Canada, and we had a representative from every continent except for Antarctica at the Celebration. Senator Ron Wyden prepared a statement for the Congressional Record to mark the 30th anniversary of “The Goonies”, shot in Astoria, Oregon. Sen. Wyden noted the growth of the Oregon film industry and the “good-paying jobs and tourism that in turn support local businesses and economic development across the State”. Astoria Celebrates “The Goonies” 30th Anniversary

The highly-anticipated 30th anniversary of “The Goonies“, took place over 4 days in Astoria last month.  The celebration kicked off with the Geocache “One Eyed Willie Treasure” hunt at the Astoria Armory, with the official “Goonies Day” being marked as June 7th.  Several screenings of the movie took place over the four days with the collective events attracted around 15,000 fans from all over the world, celebrating the “Farewell to Warren Field” (location featured in the film’s opening), original cast appearances and the largest collective of the  Truffle Shuffle the world has ever seen!
