“What We Lost Along the Way” An #OregonMade Documentary

Travel Oregon recently highlighted a short doc that was funded as part of the Outdoor Adventure Film Grant awarded by both Travel Oregon and Oregon Film. The film, directed by Portlander Devin Boss, highlights friends’ Oregon Coast journey to experience nature and leave anxiety behind.

Devin Boss recalls watching the waves crash against the rocks at Thor’s Well on his recent Oregon Coast road trip with friends. “It’s probably like in the top five things I’ve ever witnessed in nature,” he says of the natural attraction in Yachats, just down the path from Cape Perpetua Visitors Center. McMinnville Short Film Fest Opens February 27th

Held annually in the heart of Oregon’s Wine County, McMinnville, the internationally recognized MSFF, focuses on a range of narrative topics, including Native American, Drama, LGBTQ, Comedy, Horror, Experimental, Animation and Documentary films.

Solar Punk Film Festival Open for Submissions

Solar Punk Film Festival (SPFF) is a new festival in Portland, OR hosted by Bridge City Media with a screening in June 2025.

SPFF invites filmmakers, visionaries, and changemakers to share short films embody the Solar Punk philosophy: a hopeful, solution-driven outlook on environmental and societal futures. This festival is an opportunity for artists to imagine worlds where innovation, community, and sustainability thrive, fostering spaces for inspiration, dialogue, and transformation.

The Contest

  • Submissions Open: January 17 – May 16, 2025
  • Film Length: 2 to 15 minutes
  • Formats Accepted: mp4 or mov
  • Eligibility: Submissions should adhere to Solar Punk themes.

The Oregon Coast Film Festival Returns – Submit Now!

The Oregon Coast Film Festival returns to the Egyptian Theatre in Coos Bay, April 5, 2025. The return of the Oregon Coast Film Festival will coincide with the 100th birthday celebration of the Egyptian Theater.

The Oregon Coast Film Festival (OCFF) began in 2013 at the Sprague Community Theater in Bandon, Oregon before moving to the Egyptian Theater in 2016. The last edition of the festival was held in January 2020, as the festival was suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Short Film Shooting in Ashland

A local production team led by New York University graduate-turned-Ashland-based screenwriter Monica Lynn Cortez is shooting a film placing Ashland’s sister city of Guanajuato, Mexico, at center stage. The project also has help from SOU’s Digital Cinema students and a star-studded local cast featuring Oregon Shakespeare Festival actors.

Filming started Friday morning at the Lithia Park pickleball courts, continuing Saturday, including at Hannon Library, with plans to shoot at SOU’s Digital Media Center over the weekend. Filming is slated to wrap up by mid-November. Continue reading... “Short Film Shooting in Ashland”

Women in Film Portland Announce Vision Grant Finalists

Congratulations to the Women in Film Portland 2024 Vision Grant Finalists. This year the Vision Grant will include two post-production grants – one for short docs and one for short narratives.

“Inward” w/ Michi Meko & Chad Brown

On November 21 PAM CUT’s Tomorrow Theater presents a screening and an event featuring Portland-based environmental activist, documentarian, and non-profit founder, Chad Brown and the Portland premiere of his gorgeous short film Inward about renowned painter and explorer Michi Meko, who will be in attendance for this special screening.

A self-described explorer, cartographer, and abstractionist, Michi’s work seeks to capture the wild beauty of nature through the eyes of a “lone black man reporting back from the new world.” There will be a post-film discussion with Chad and Michi moderated by a special guest. The November 7th celebration will feature our best work yet (again), which we couldn’t do without your support!

The lineup includes “American Teenager,” a slice of life drama about a girl living in a motel and “The Spot,” a comedy about young people crammed into their first apartment. Reel Ambitions will also premiere “My Shoes,” a music video by OTF alumnus Talilo Marfil featuring legendary indie rapper Tech N9ne.
