I went to the recent “Live Wire Radio” show which plays on OPB on Saturday Nights. They recorded two shows – one that will air on Christmas Night and one that will air in January. The January show features Carrie Brownstein and Gus Van Sant (as well as a good skit with Carrie about “Portlandia”). The Christmas show featured singer/songwriter Thao Nguyen who played this song that night. It brought the house down. A gift card Christmas – a true 21st century Christmas song. On Friday we were able to take advantage of a unique marketing opportunity thanks to the support of the Portland Based band Pink Martini, a few donated bottles of Oregon Pinot from the Willamette Valley Winery Association and the coordination efforts of Jennifer Yocom from Portland Mayor Sam Adams’ office. Thanks to Jennifer’s relationship with the band and the band’s willingness to help market Oregon, we were able to obtain twelve tickets to the Pink Martini concert friday night which was the first of three performances this weekend at the bowl. Local Director Matt Jay’s recent music video for Jennie Wayne is currently featured as WKE feature of the week. The video “My Own Home” is a beautifully photographed one-shot music video that magnifies the artifacts and textures that make a space your home. Local director/cinematographer Johnny Le shot the video .
I spoke to both Matt and Johnny today to get more info on how the video came about. Matt has managed to make his way around the local music scene directing videos for a few other artists as well as directing a few short films.
